Shirt steps down as Briggers boss
21st October, 2016
Worsbrough Bridge Athletic manager Ian Shirt has resigned from his role at the Toolstation NCEL Division One club with immediate effect.
Following his departure on Thursday night, club chairman Peter Schofield released the following statement on behalf of the club.
He said: "I would like to thank Ian for all his hard work at Worsbrough Bridge.
"He was one of the people who were instrumental in securing the future of the club back in February when the club was on its knees.
"I asked him if he would step into the breach and manage the club under exceptionally difficult circumstances, which enabled the club to maintain its NCEL status.
"Ian is an exceptional guy, who I am proud to have been associated with and he is Worsbrough Bridge through and through.
"I know recent defeats have hurt him and it was with great sadness that we accepted his resignation.
"Ian will always be welcome at Park Road and I want to thank him for his effort and commitment and wish him well for the future.
"Following Ian's departure, we have asked Josh Wright to take first team responsibility as caretaker manager until further notice.
"We wish Josh well and look forward to building on the foundations started by Ian."
