NCEL Match Review #53

26th February, 2009

A 4-1 win at home to Thackley has stretched Mickleover Sports' lead at the top of the KoolSport NCEL Premier Division to nine points.

Chris Coy netted for the visitors but it was to be the Derbyshire side's evening on Tuesday as Tony Law and Kieran O'Connell had them two-up by the quarter-hour mark.

Dave Middleditch and O'Connell then added to the scoreline after Coy had given Thackley some hope in the 55th minute.

The two matches in Division One finished all square.

Leeds Carnegie played out a goalless draw at home to Rossington Main on Monday whilst, 48 hours later, Grimsby Borough were held to a 1-1 scoreline by visitors Staveley Miners Welfare.

Borough, who move up to fifteenth, took the lead through Lewis Buckthorpe on 25 minutes before Alex Barnes levelled for the away side with twenty minutes remaining.

Pickering Town progressed to the Third Round of the League Cup after their match at Arnold Town finally took place after numerous postponements.

Chris Batchelor put them ahead on 23 minutes before a second-half Liam Salt brace made sure of the win that sees them go to Rainworth Miners Welfare in the next round.

And, two goals in a minute late on saw Selby Town go through to the Fourth Round with a 3-2 victory at home to Nostell Miners Welfare.

The visitors took a two-goal lead with goals from Craig Stephens and Francis Johnson before a 44th-minute penalty from Brenton Leister brought the Robins back into the match.

Andrew Dawson equalised on 79 minutes and then, before Nostell managed to catch breath, the hosts took the lead through Chris Kamara.

Selby now host Hallam in the last eight of the competition.

Winterton Rangers are through to the final of the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy after a 1-0 win at United Counties side Sleaford Town.

Andy Holt's header on 49 minutes separated the sides and they now face Boston Town in the Final.

Bridlington Town progressed to the last four of the East Riding Senior Cup with a 3-1 win at NCEL rivals Hall Road Rangers.

Nathan Hotte and Chibuzor Chilaka gave them a great start with both netting goals in the opening ten minutes.

Mike Gibson pulled on back for the hosts before a Lee Harper own goal on the hour ensured victory for the Seasiders.

Brighouse Town's participation in the West Riding County Cup ended at the Third Round stage as they lost 4-1 at Bradford Park Avenue.

And, Leeds Carnegie's BUCS campaign is over as they lost 2-0 at Gloucestershire side, UWE Hartpury, in the Quarter-Finals of the British University Championships.
