Former skipper becomes new Rail boss

7th June, 2017

Liam Gray has been unveiled as the new manager of Toolstation NCEL Premier Division side Harrogate Railway Athletic.

The former Rail skipper will be assisted by Ray Green who stepped in to become boss in February and saved the club from relegation.

Dennis Metcalfe will be coach whilst another Rail legend Lee Ryan will also be on the management team.

A statement by the Station View outfit said: "We are going local to promote local footballers and the youth of Harrogate and surrounding areas. We needed a management team to reinvent HRA top down with passion and commitment and we believe we have chosen the team to do this.

"All these people have great passion and history with the club and will show a level of dedication that will firstly consolidate our position in the Football Pyramid, then work hard to move us forward generating a brand of football and feeling of community that will promote the club to the people of Harrogate.

"We are focusing on creating a new culture and a local community spirit to promote engagement within our club.

"The idealism of joining HRA at the age of 6-8 years old and then playing in the red and green of Railway right through to the age of 30 something is a massive plus to our club and one that is not promoted enough.

"We need to value all participants at the club and make our club their club and so build a stronger and more sustainable future for Harrogate's Footballing Community."

Ashforth resigns as Rail boss

6th September, 2016

Harrogate Railway Athletic have announced that manager Lee Ashforth has resigned from his post with immediate effect.

A statement from the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division side said that their "committee and club as a whole would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Lee for his time at the club as both player and manager.

"As a young manager, Lee's professionalism, commitment and dedication has been second to none. If anyone deserved success, it is Lee.

"We would like to take this opportunity to wish Lee all the best for the future in what ever the future has for him."

The news came following Saturday's 5-0 home defeat to Consett in the Emirates FA Cup whilst a 7-0 loss to visitors Handsworth Parramore last midweek left Rail with only three points from their opening four league games.

The club are now inviting applications for the first team manager's role, to be made in writing via email to their football secretary David Shepherd at shep@therailfc.com.

The closing date for applications is 5pm on Friday 16th September, 2016.
