Maltby Main have confirmed the resignation of manager Lee Thompson following their 8-3 defeat at Campion in the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division on Wednesday night.

The Muglet Lane side announced that he had stepped down on Thursday afternoon after the result that left them in the bottom two with seven points from their opening nine games.

A statement released by the Miners said: "Lee joined the club in May and his time has been beset with issues out of his control on and off the pitch.

"Like all past managers, coaches and players, Lee will be welcomed at the club, as we pride ourselves on this friendship with past people."

Assistant manager Jamie Smith will be taking charge of first team affairs on an interim caretaker basis, starting with Saturday's home league match with Goole AFC.
