Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2023/24 #39

10th December, 2023

Emley AFC are through to the last 32 of this season's Isuzu FA Vase after their victory on another Saturday of Toolstation NCEL football that was badly affected by poor weather.

The Pewits comfortably progressed 4-0 at home to West Didsbury & Chorlton with all of the goals coming in the second period at the Fantasic Media Welfare Ground.

Alex Metcalfe broke the deadlock on 55 minutes before Paul Walker added a second with just over a quarter-of-an-hour remaining and a late Ruben Jerome double, with one from the penalty spot, securing Emley's spot in the Fourth Round at home to Charnock Richard.

Silsden AFC and Hallam will be looking to join them but their games at Newcastle University and Ramsbottom United, respectively, were both called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

For the second weekend running, Bottesford Town's home match was the only Premier Division game to go ahead, thanks to their 3G surface.

And, the Poachers picked up three vital points in their 2-1 win over Tadcaster Albion to climb to sixteenth in the table, five points ahead of Goole AFC who are at the foot of the table.

A Jack Griffin penalty put them ahead early in the second half, their lead was doubled on the hour mark through Joshua Fraiwald, and Cody Collins pulled one back for the visiting Brewers in stoppage time.

Shirebrook Town are up to second in Division One following a 4-1 home victory against Retford FC, a first half Kieren Watson brace added to in the second period by Marcus Day and Carlton Carty whilst Liam Bennent struck a consolation for the away side.

And, Noah Flint struck twice for Staveley Miners Welfare as they won 3-1 at home to Harrogate Railway Athletic.

Dustyn Grierson also scored for the Trojans who are now thirteenth, all of their goals coming in the first half, whilst Luca Bolino converted a penalty for the Rail in the final seconds of the game.

Meanwhile, in Friday night's game, Alex Hutchinson and Jack Cawthorn netted for Worsbrough Bridge Athletic for a 2-0 home win over Athersley Recreation to move them up into fifteenth.
