Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2023/24 #16

21st September, 2023

Emley AFC have kept the Toolstation NCEL flag flying in this season's Emirates FA Cup with a fantastic home victory over Pitching In Northern Premier League side Mossley in their midweek replay.

The Pewits had thought they had taken the victory in the 88th minute when Paul Walker broke the deadlock in what had been a very tight encounter but Oumar Camara levelled in stoppage time to force a further half-hour.

Emley regained control with Samuel Pashley and James Walshaw netting at the end of each period of extra-time to send them through to the Third Round Qualifying stage and a trip to Vanarama National League North side Alfreton Town at the end of the month, courtesy of a 3-1 win.

The JCP Construction League Cup got underway with seven First Round ties going ahead on Tuesday night, the biggest victors being Wombwell Town who won 6-0 at Ollerton Town.

Rikki Paylor, Gadhafi Kiwanuka, Freddie Russell, Matthew Thornton, Kane Reece and Brodie Cooper scored one each in the win as Wombwell went one better than the 5-0 league victory they claimed over their Nottinghamshire opponents at the weekend.

Dronfield Town were the only team to succeed on their home turf on Tuesday, Oliver Townsend and Max Rhodes with a couple of their goals whilst Clay Cross Town's Daniel Shelbourne scored at both ends in a 3-1 victory for the hosts.

Dominic Hart, Joshua Nodder and Jack Haslam netted for Parkgate as they won 3-0 on their travels at Glasshoughton Welfare whilst there were shoot-out victories for Shirebrook Town and Harrogate Railway Athletic.

Nathan Watson opened the scoring for Shirebrook in stoppage time but hosts Horbury Town dramatically levelled through Samuel Kyeremeh to make it 1-1 and take it to penalties that the Derbyshire visitors won 5-4.

And, the Rail beat home side Nostell Miners Welfare 4-3 on spot kicks after a goalless draw.

Aaron Sennett-Neilson grabbed both of Retford FC's goals in a 2-0 win at Swallownest and there was also a brace for Benjamin Hinchliffe as Beverley Town came from behind to triumph 3-1 at Wakefield AFC.

Selby Town's home clash with Retford United fell victim to bad weather as did the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division match between Barton Town and Maltby Main.

But, one league game did go ahead on Tuesday evening as Manasse Kiange struck twice for Rossington Main in their 2-0 win at Golcar United to move his side up to eleventh in the top flight.

Wednesday night saw three further League Cup ties with Brigg Town scoring twice late on in a 2-1 home victory over Yorkshire Amateur after Cole Carter had given the visitors a tenth minute lead.

Stephen McCarron levelled as the game entered towards stoppage time and then Reagan Waud netted his first for the club to send the Zebras through.

Louth Town progressed following a penalty shoot-out, winning 6-5 on spot kicks, after their home clash with Worsbrough Bridge Athletic ended goalless.

Danilo Mossolo equalised for Athersley Recreation in stoppage time to force penalties in a 1-1 draw at Staveley Miners Welfare, cancelling out Kian Tansley's early opener.

And, the Rec were victorious in the shoot-out 5-4 to make it through to the Second Round in dramatic fashion.

Meanwhile, Albion Sports are up to fifth in the Premier Division after a 4-2 home win over second-placed Handsworth on Wednesday.

Lewis Waddington netted a couple for the Lions with Robbie Fox and Hass Gorji also on the scoresheet whilst Brandon Bagley and Mitchell Dunne scored for the visiting Ambers.
