Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2023/24 #14

14th September, 2023

Silsden AFC stormed to the top of the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division with a 5-0 home win over the side they replace at the summit, Barton Town, in midweek.

Kayle Price claimed his second hat-trick in as many games to help the Cobbydalers to the comfortable win with Isaac Baldwin and Casey Stewart starting and finishing the scoring.

Knaresborough Town are two points behind in second spot after they finished 1-1 with visitors Hallam, the away side snatching the draw with an injury-time equaliser from Calum Ward after Nathan Cartman had given the hosts a 57th minute lead.

Handsworth and Frickley Athletic were both victorious to move above Barton who drop to fifth.

Mitchell Dunne and Kieran Wells were the scorers for Handsworth as they beat visitors Penistone Church 2-0 whilst Frickley won by the same scoreline at Maltby Main with Richard Collier and Keanan Mannings finding the net at the start of the second period.

Finn Donovan's 85th minute winner secured Thackley a 2-1 victory at home to Garforth Town and they climb into sixth above Campion who are now seventh following their 2-2 draw at Golcar United.

Kieran Suddards and Marcus Day had seemingly given them the points before Daniel Naidole scored his second, this one from the penalty spot, in stoppage time to ensure the spoils were shared.

Albion Sports' perfect start to the league season came to an end as they drew 1-1 with visitors Emley AFC, Eivind Johnsen's first half opener for the Lions cancelled out after the interval by Iyrwah Gooden for the Pewits.

The bottom two sides met in a match that ended 3-3 in dramatic fashion with away side Bottesford Town looking to have grabbed a late winner through Reece Moody but there was still further stoppage time left for Matthew Dawes to restore parity for Pickering Town and leave it honours even.

Eccleshill United were 3-2 victors at Rossington Main with Brice Ghussein's 62nd minute strike proving to be decisive and Goole AFC defeated visitors Tadcaster Albion 2-0 with a Joshua Dacre goal and a Liam Flanagan penalty.

In Division One, Wombwell Town remain top after their 4-3 victory at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic, Gavin Allott with a hat-trick for the visitors whilst Taylor Nicholson also struck three for the hosts.

Wakefield AFC had dislodged Wombwell for 24 hours at the summit after a Billy Mole brace and one each from Cory Woodward and Jaydan Sandhu claimed a 4-1 win at Selby Town.

Shirebrook Town won 6-1 at home to Swallownest in a match that was switched late on to their place to ensure it would go ahead with goals from Nathan Watson, Joe Parkin, Kian Tansley and Carlton Carty, a penalty from Kiyani Clayton, and an own goal giving the hosts the win that moves them up to fourth.

Jordan Kershaw struck twice as Nostell Miners Welfare were 4-2 winners at Brigg Town to jump into fifth whilst Luca Bolino's double helped Harrogate Railway Athletic to a 3-1 victory at Armthorpe Welfare and the Rail are now eighth.

Dronfield Town beat hosts Horbury Town 3-2, thanks to a 59th minute winner from James Lindores, and Steven Wankiewicz's injury-time strike saw Retford FC to a 2-1 home defeat of Staveley Miners Welfare.

Three fixtures were called off on Tuesday due to bad weather with Louth Town's trip to Athersley Recreation, Clay Cross Town's home game with Beverley Town and Parkgate's match at Ollerton Town falling victim to the weather.

Meanwhile, Lewis Macaskill, Spencer Clarke and Jordan Turner netted for Retford United but they bow out of the Notts Senior Cup at the First Round stage following their 5-3 loss at Newark Town.
