22nd January, 2017

Cleethorpes Town and AFC Emley refuse to concede any ground in their respective chases for title glory as the Premier Division and Division One leaders both won their latest matches on Saturday.

Cleethorpes are now ten points clear of the chasing pack after their 3-0 home win over relegation-threatened Parkgate, Peter Winn's first half strike added to in the last ten minutes of the match by Leigh Hutchinson and Marc Cooper.

Their closest rivals are now Bridlington Town who climbed up into second spot as goals in the opening six minutes from Jake Day and Joel Sutton helped them to a 2-1 win at next-to-bottom Retford United, the hosts grabbing an injury-time consolation from the penalty spot through Oliver Perry.

The two other sides in the top four played out a 1-1 draw between themselves with Pickering Town now third after their early opener from George Bissett was cancelled out by Mike Garrod near the hour mark for Thackley who stay fourth.

Handsworth Parramore tightened their grip on fifth spot with a 2-1 home victory over Rainworth Miners Welfare, Reece Hands and Joe Thornton's strikes in the opening half proving enough for the hosts.

They are now three points ahead of sixth placed Albion Sports who were beaten 4-2 at home by basement side Barton Town Old Boys, Thomas Waudby and Luke Salas with a brace each for the Swans to give their survival hopes a boost.

Barton are five points away from safety with a game in hand on the team just outside the relegation zone, Armthorpe Welfare, who went down 2-1 at Harrogate Railway Athletic, Darren Mansaram's goal not enough to claim a point after Jules Gabbiadini and Stephen Bromley had the home side in control by the interval.

There were two goals each for Liversedge's Stephen Wales and Staveley Miners Welfare's Adam Lee as they played out a 3-3 draw at the Clayborn Ground.

Garforth Town hit four without reply at Clipstone with Jack McMurrough, Mark Simpson, Mitchell Hamilton and Luke McCrum getting on the scoresheet whilst Worksop Town were 4-2 victors at Bottesford Town to move the Tigers up into the top ten.

Grant Allott and Oliver Fearon netted as AFC Mansfield prevailed 2-0 at Athersley Recreation and the spoils were shared at Muglet Lane as Maltby Main drew 1-1 at home with Hemsworth Miners Welfare.

Emley maintained their five point gap at the top of Division One with a 2-1 home win over Grimsby Borough who started the day in third place.

A fourth minute Jordan Coduri penalty was added to by Samuel Jerome as the hosts took control by the midway point of the opening period before Louis Grant brought the visitors back into the game on 69 through Louis Grant.

Penistone Church, though, are keeping up the pressure in second spot as they won 5-0 at home to Teversal, Daniel Joynes, Daniel Howes and James Stafford having them three up by the break whilst Andrew Ring and Brett Lovell completed the scoring in the second half.

Pontefract Collieries go above Borough into third after three points on their travels, Christopher Jackson's first half injury time strike proving vital as they won 3-2 at Eccleshill United.

Hall Road Rangers stay fifth but have increased their advantage on sixth placed Hallam to eight points after beating their Sandygate hosts 1-0, Ashley Dexter with the goal in the 52nd minute.

An injury time winner from Fraser Lancaster saw Knaresborough Town snatch a 2-1 win at Shirebrook Town and they are now up to seventh, just two points away from the play-off zone.

They leapfrogged Campion who went down 2-1 at Glasshoughton Welfare, a stoppage time goal from Andrew Horbury settling the match in the hosts' favour.

Bottom side Nostell Miners Welfare were denied all three points at home to the side they are chasing just outside of the relegation zone, Worsbrough Bridge Athletic, Dominic Riordan popping up to make it 2-2 to keep the distance between the two teams at nine points.

Westella & Willerby remain sandwiched by those sides, though, as they were unable to take advantage of the dropped points by Athletic, losing 3-2 at home to Dronfield Town.

Matthew Thompson's hat-trick helped Ollerton Town to a 6-2 home victory over Brigg Town whilst Yorkshire Amateur were 3-1 winners at Selby Town and there was a 2-1 triumph over visitors Rossington Main by Winterton Rangers.
