Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2016/17 #31

20th November, 2016

A 4-0 win at Barton Town Old Boys keeps Thackley three points clear at the top of the Premier Division after Saturday's matches in the Toolstation NCEL.

The home side, who stay next to bottom after their eighth straight league loss, fell behind on five minutes with Craig Bentham's strike and Thackley doubled their advantage midway through the first period through Daniel Broadbent before a second half penalty from Ryan Farrell and a fourth from George Eustance completed the scoring.

Cleethorpes Town, though, remain on the Dennyfield side's coattails as they also won on their travels, 3-0 at AFC Mansfield, an early Bradley Wilson own goal setting them on their way with Brody Robertson and Andrew Taylor confirming the victory after the interval.

Third placed Albion Sports lost a little ground on the top two - they are now seven points behind Cleethorpes - as they drew 2-2 at home to Liversedge, Karl Hall rescuing them a point in stoppage time after Stephen Wales' 82nd minute goal had seemingly given the visitors the win.

Sedge drop to seventh with Pickering Town, Bridlington Town and Handsworth Parramore all leapfrogging them after victories.

A Ryan Blott brace helped Pickering to a 4-1 success at Athersley Recreation whilst Bridlington claimed their tenth straight league win with a 2-0 triumph at basement side Parkgate, Brett Agnew and Joel Sutton on the scoresheet for the Seasiders.

And, Parramore thumped visitors Retford United, 10-0, Aaron Moxam with four of their goals to take his season's tally to 28 whilst Simon Harrison grabbed a brace and there were also goals for Daniel Buttle, Alex Rippon, Jon Froggatt and Gareth Griffiths.

Hemsworth Miners Welfare move up to eighth following their 3-2 win at Staveley Miners Welfare, Bill Law with what proved to be their vital third in the 83rd minute.

A Sam Forster double helped Clipstone to a 4-2 defeat of hosts Armthorpe Welfare, Bottesford Town also tasted away success by beating Harrogate Railway Athletic, 2-0, Maltby Main drew 1-1 with visitors Worksop Town and it was goalless at Kirklington Road between Rainworth Miners Welfare and Garforth Town.

In Division One, leaders Penistone Church came out of the traps quickly with Dale Kelly's sixth minute strike claiming a 1-0 home win over Glasshoughton Welfare and they are now two points clear of Grimsby Borough who were held to a goalless draw by much-improved visitors Shirebrook Town.

Pontefract Collieries remain third, three points off the summit, after two each from Jamie Williams and Mark Whitehouse helped them to a 5-1 home defeat of Worsbrough Bridge Athletic.

Hallam's sixth consecutive league victory propelled them up to fourth, Callum Greaves netting twice in their 5-0 win over visitors Eccleshill United whilst AFC Emley are now fifth after a 4-3 home success against Winterton Rangers, Ashley Flynn with his 22nd and 23rd goals of the season setting them on their way.

Jamie Reason's opener and a 21st minute penalty from Christopher Spinks saw Hall Road Rangers claim a 2-1 victory at home to Campion whose late consolation came from Eli Hey who is now joint top scorer in the division with Flynn.

All of the bottom four sides picked up points, two of them facing each other as Nostell Miners Welfare and Rossington Main played out a 2-2 draw, Connor Prestley twice bringing the hosts back level.

And, there were wins for Westella & Willerby, an own goal earning them a 1-0 victory at Ollerton Town whilst Teversal beat Selby Town, 2-1 at Carnarvon Street, Khyle Sargent with the winner eleven minutes from time.

Meanwhile, in the division's other game, the spoils were shared between Dronfield Town and Yorkshire Amateur as it finished 1-1 at the HE Barnes Stadium.
