Player Approach Angers Staveley

30th March, 2009

Staveley Miners Welfare are angry about the way they say one of their players was approached by a team higher up the National League System.

A statement from the club reads: "Over recent weeks, the club have received several enquiries and notification of clubs intending to make an approach to our players with the requisite seven-day notice required by the FA Rule and Regulation handbook at page 106.

"Following a request to waive the seven-day notice period and our refusal to the same, regrettably it was brought to our attention last week that the Blue Square Conference club in question had made a direct approach to one of our players despite our refusal and without pursuing the same under the correct recognised procedure.

"The club in question was reported to the FA by Staveley MWFC and a decision on whether that club is to be charged is awaited."

Their statement adds: "It is any club's right to make an official approach or ask permission to speak to a non-contract or contracted player if the correct procedure is followed and there are no contractual restrictions on making such an approach.

"We fully expected that clubs would be interested in several of our players and that, with our recent good form and as the club progresses, these approaches would increase in number and be from clubs at a higher league standard.

"We expect these higher placed and bigger clubs to conduct themselves correctly and not act in an unprofessional and disrespectful manner to both players and club in waiving aside the rule book and conducting an approach for any of our player outside of the FA rules and regulations."

Staveley Sponsor Helps Hospital

2nd March, 2009

Staveley Miners Welfare's sponsor is giving some of those involved with Sheffield Children's Hospital a night to remember tomorrow.

Baris Group Ltd, who have a corporate hospitality box at Sheffield Wednesday, have made it available for the game with Reading for ten staff and patients.

The hospital will be the shirt sponsors for the Championship side from next season.

Baris' Board of Directors and Chairman of Staveley Miners Welfare, Terry Damms, say that's a tremendous gesture by the Owls.

In response, they have given a few of the staff and patients at the hospital an opportunity to enjoy a night at Hillsborough in their hospitality facilities.

Baris are also arranging to purchase Sheffield Wednesday shirts and a few goodies for the few patients.

And, they are hoping the Owls can arrange to get the shirts signed by the players as a memento of the night.

Staveley Captain Injury Blow

17th February, 2009

Staveley Miners Welfare's captain looks set to sit out the rest of the season.

Goalkeeper Martin Kearney is out of action for six weeks following a stress fracture in his foot, says the club's website.

It's described as a "sickening blow" as "Martin's ability, confidence and organisational skills have been a massive part of the team's huge improvement since Darren Bland came to the club and signed Martin in November and his presence will be a major loss in the remaining fifteen league games of the season."

The statement continues: "With so many games at all levels over the next two months, a replacement keeper is being sought and the club hope to make an announcement as soon as possible."

Staveley County FA Change Approved

14th December, 2008

Staveley Miners Welfare are set to return to the Sheffield & Hallamshire County FA from next season.

Their request to move from Derbyshire FA affiliation has been fully endorsed this week by the Football Association Sanction and Registrations Committee.

Staveley wanted to move to their original county FA due to economic and financial considerations and it was fully supported by the Derbyshire FA.

Chairman Terry Damms said: "We are delighted to be able to seek affiliation to the Sheffield & Hallamshire County FA next season and hope that the application will be a formality.

"This is particularly good news for the club whose first affiliation was to the Sheffield & Hallamshire County FA some 20-years ago.

"We are in the main a club whose management, secretary and 95% of the registered players all reside in the Sheffield area.

"We are just a couple of miles away from the offices of the Sheffield & Hallamshire but 50-miles away from the offices of the Derbyshire County FA and any disciplinary meetings will hopefully from next season be so much easier and cheaper for us to attend.

"I would thank Mr Compton and the Derbyshire County FA for their support in fully endorsing the request and also the Football Association for approving our request for a move back to the Sheffield & Hallamshire County FA.

"We hope that we can be of assistance in the future to the Sheffield & Hallamshire County FA and also the Derbyshire County FA for the holding of any County FA games or the like or County Association meetings at Staveley MWFC."

Kearney Follows Bland To Staveley

12th November, 2008

Staveley Miners Welfare's new boss has unveiled his first full signing.

He has captured goalkeeper Martin Kearney from Hallam FC.

A string of highly regarded performances by Martin, pieced together with the ambitions of the new manager and the club, made the approach after the expiry of the 7-day period a formality.

The signing is part of the club's efforts to secure competition in all places and strengthen the squad with experience.

The Sandygate outfit were quick to point out that this recent signing of Martin and the signature of experienced keeper Jack Harvey from Long Eaton United for the reserves by Mick Eborall and Dave Mace is not an indication of a change of ethos or any blight on the existing goalkeepers at the club.

A spokesperson said: "Darren considers competition for places should be strong throughout the club and Mick was quick to point out that the reserves had been playing with 16- and 17-year-old keepers from the U19's.

"The more physical demands of the North Midlands Reserves League was something that had been more evident in certain games.

"And, with a young back four of an average age of just 19, a more experienced keeper was required to complement the squad."

Bland Is New Staveley Boss

28th October, 2008

Staveley Miners Welfare have confirmed that Darren Bland, who stepped down as Hallam boss last night, has joined them as first team manager with immediate effect.

Chairman Terry Damms said: "Since the departure of the previous
management team over a month ago, we have been busily considering all applications and also those candidates that the club identified as those who may possibly be suitable to work with our ethos and strategy as well as matching the club's ambitions of bringing higher level football to Inkersall Road.

"The fact that we had no less than six enquiries from NCEL Premier management teams and twenty-one applicants in total, indicated that the interest was high to join a forward-thinking progressive club such as ours.

"A few names were also cropping up not only in 'rumourville' but also in experienced circles as to who may be the man for the job and Darren's name was one that constantly got mentioned.

"Once we were able to contact Darren and eventually met with him, his ambitions were clear and we felt that he would fit in perfectly with our strategy and objectives.

"With the club's structure, training facilities and plans both on- and off-the-field, these dovetailed with Darren's own ambitions and we are delighted that he has accepted the offer."

Bland's first game in charge will be the trip to Appleby Frodingham in KoolSport NCEL Division on Saturday.

Staveley Ready For Management Hunt

3rd October, 2008

Staveley Miners Welfare have begun their hunt for a new management team.

The positions are currently vacant after the KoolSport NCEL Division One side parted company with Steve Ludlam and Shaun Hird last month.

Formally opening their search, the Inkersall Road outfit said: "The club operates an ethos of whereby a majority of first team squad members are players who have previously completed a two or three year YTS contract with local professional clubs and other players showing a similar commitment and desire to that strong mentality required to have completed such a contract.

"The new management team will be part of a forward thinking club, setting their targets of progression through loyalty, desire, experience and commitment to the club and its ethos and be able to 'get into the minds' and 'secure respect' of this young squad.

"They will be expected to work with the existing first team squad, developing the latter and supplementing the same by discussions and agreements with the supportive Club's senior management as regards transfers, new signings and any proposed change in ethos or policy howsoever affecting the club and its objectives."

Applications are to be by email to the Club's Chairman, Terry Damms, at teldamms@aol.com.
