Scarborough Athletic's board of directors will now have to answer to some very special new members of the Society which runs and owns the club - the players themselves! The majority of Scarborough Athletic's first team squad are now fully signed-up members of the Society - formerly the Seadog Trust.
This means they are equal-owners of the club they play for!
In a recruitment drive over the past few months, new membership co-ordinators Andy Crossland and Fred Firman have increased membership levels by almost 15% - with the current total standing at 590 members and rising weekly.
And within that increase are the members of Boro's first team squad, including Mike Gibson, Rob Northen, Bill Law and Joel Hartley.
Communications director James Hunter said: "The players were all keen to join up when we approached them in the summer.
"They have all paid their ?12 membership fee and understand what the Society movement is all about, and how it is the lifeblood of the club.
"It was great to see a few of the lads sporting their membership badges in the clubhouse after the win against Crook last week aswell!
"The club is run as an Industrial and Provident Society - Scarborough Athletic FC Limited. That entity runs the club and all members are equal share-holders who can stand for election to the board if they wish.
"Who knows, one day we might even see a player stand for election themselves - although that certainly wouldn't guarantee their place in the team!"
