Management changes made at Ambers

7th May, 2023

Handsworth have announced changes to their management team structure ahead of the 2023/24 Toolstation NCEL Premier Division season.

Jon Froggatt and Mark Ward have been appointed as joint managers of the Ambers' first team with immediate effect.

It means the departure of Aiden Spowage, Jason Dodsworth and Louis Axcell with a club statement saying the trio had "worked tirelessly over what has been a difficult season for the Ambers."

It continued: "All three leave their roles with our heartfelt thanks for everything they have done for the club and, of course, all three will always be welcome here at Olivers Mount."

Froggatt, the club's record goalscorer, said of his appointment: "I’m delighted to be back at Handsworth FC as I had some great times here before, both as a player and also as interim manager on two occasions.

"I’m also delighted that Mark Ward has agreed to become joint manager with me, he’s a fantastic person and friend and someone I’m looking forward to working with once again in the dugout.

"We feel our ambitions in football match those of the club and we hope to bring future success to this wonderful football club.

"The facilities are some of the best around and we can’t wait to get started in what we hope will be a long successful era."

Ward added: "I'm excited to get another opportunity back in management, and to be able to share this opportunity with one of my best mates is a rarity.

"It’s been a long time coming and something we can’t wait to get our teeth into as we believe Handsworth is a sleeping giant and we’re hoping to awaken it.

"From the foundations its built on, to the people that work there, to the facilities it has to offer for us, are second to none.

"The ambitions and aspirations are at one with both Jon's and my own, and with time we believe we can achieve some great times whilst getting locals and fans from afar to want to come visit and support a quality club."

The duo are now in the process of contacting the existing squad to outline their plans and vision for the forthcoming season and beyond.
