Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2014/15 #71
26th April, 2015
Congratulations to Clipstone who have lifted the Toolstation NCEL Division One trophy whilst the Premier Division title race will now go into the final week of the season after another dramatic day of football on Saturday.
League leaders Shaw Lane Aquaforce took the lead in the sixth minute through Lee Morris but a Stephen Wales leveller just before half-time meant that the spoils were shared in a 1-1 draw with visitors Nostell Miners Welfare.
It allowed second-placed Worksop Town to move to within a point of the summit as they won 8-0 at home to Maltby Main, with two each for Adam Ward and Connor Sellars amongst the scorers, whilst Tadcaster Albion can still mathematically lift the trophy despite their 3-2 defeat at the side just below them in fourth, Cleethorpes Town.
The Brewers opened the scoring with an eighth minute penalty from Daniel Gray but the home side took control after the hour mark with Louis Grant netting twice and Brody Robertson getting on the scoresheet before there was an injury-time second for Tadcaster from Andrew Milne.
Shaw Lane now know that a victory on Tuesday night at home to Cleethorpes will confirm them as Premier Division champions.
Heanor Town kept themselves in fifth spot with a 3-2 home victory over Thackley whilst Barton Town Old Boys moved up into sixth after a 3-1 win at relegation-placed side Retford United.
They have gone above Handsworth Parramore who did not play and Bridlington Town who were beaten 2-0 at home by Glasshoughton Welfare who had already been confirmed as finishing in a relegation position.
There were 3-1 home wins for Albion Sports and Liversedge against Staveley Miners Welfare and Pickering Town, respectively, whilst Athersley Recreation were beaten 2-1 at Armthorpe Welfare.
Clipstone's title triumph in Division One came courtesy of a 1-0 victory at Winterton Rangers, Callum Mawby striking what would be a historic goal for the Cobras on 28 minutes.
Chris Millington's side were also hoping that their North Nottinghamshire rivals AFC Mansfield would do them a massive favour by winning at Pontefract Collieries who started the day top of the table but were playing their final game of the season.
The Bulls took the lead through Mark Ward on 33 minutes and, when Dean Rick added a second early in the second half, it looked as though Clipstone's prayers were answered.
Nigel Danby pulled one back for the Colls just after the hour mark to threaten a comeback but it was swiftly extinguished by a third for the visitors through Ryan Williams and Craig Mitchell added a fourth before Matthew Marsden got another for the hosts who ended up being beaten, 4-2.
That sparked celebrations for Clipstone who went top by two points and they will be presented with the Division One trophy next Saturday after their last match of the campaign at home to Shirebrook Town.
Shirebrook, meanwhile, moved up to fifth with a 3-1 home victory over Bottesford Town whilst Hemsworth Miners Welfare secured a top four finish by beating visitors Yorkshire Amateur, 5-2.
Lincoln Moorlands Railway ended their season with a 12-1 loss at Rossington Main which confirmed that they would end the campaign in the relegation zone.
Lee Holmes struck four for Main whilst there were hat-tricks for Cameron Johnson and Jason Stokes as the home side ran riot.
Moorlands had to win by a massive margin and hope that Teversal would lose to have any chance of moving out of the bottom two but the Nottinghamshire side made sure there were no doubts that they would stay above the dotted line by beating visitors Dronfield Town, 1-0, Blake Vincent with the goal.
Penistone Church confirmed ninth spot with a 3-0 home victory over Louth Town whilst Knaresborough Town will finish twelfth following their 3-1 win at Eccleshill United and bottom side Grimsby Borough went down to a single goal at Selby Town.
