Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2014/15 #70

24th April, 2015

Clipstone charged to promotion whilst Handsworth Parramore and Cleethorpes Town booked their places in next month's Toolstation NCEL League Cup Final in what was another busy midweek of action.

Meanwhile, in the Premier Division, all of the top three sides won to keep the chase for the title wide open.

Shaw Lane Aquaforce remain the leaders, three points ahead of Worksop Town and four clear of Tadcaster Albion, knowing that two wins from their last three matches will see them lift the trophy regardless of what their closest rivals do.

But, they left if late on Tuesday to maintain their advantage as Shane Kelsey's 85th minute winner gave them a 2-1 home victory over Albion Sports after Daniel Facey had cancelled out their opening goal from Andrew Fox.

Things were more straightforward for Tadcaster as two Liam Ormsby goals helped them to a 5-0 win at home to Staveley Miners Welfare with David Brown, Denny Ingram and Callum Ward also getting on the scoresheet for the Brewers.

And, the following night, Worksop bounced back from two defeats with a 5-1 triumph at Barton Town Old Boys in a game that was virtually over by the half-hour as Tom Elliott, Conor Higginson and Connor Sellars had the Tigers three goals up.

Sam Liversidge added a fourth soon after the interval before Corey Mortimer struck for the home side but Elliott's second of the evening concluded the scoring on 83 minutes.

In the midweek's other Premier Division clash, Heanor Town climbed into the top five with a 7-0 home demolition of Athersley Recreation, Oliver Naylor's brace coming in a whirlwind opening thirty minutes where the Lions struck five times.

Elsewhere, there are congratulations for Clipstone who needed a victory to secure promotion to the top flight and they did so in comprehensive fashion as Jamie Smith, Blake Owen and Richard Mintoft all struck in the second period to win 3-0 at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic.

The Cobras are now just a point behind the leaders Pontefract Collieries as the Division One title race goes down to the wire after the Colls were beaten 3-0 at Hallam, Jack Hargreaves' double adding to an opener from Michael Blythen.

Hemsworth Miners Welfare stay fourth after their 4-0 win at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic on Thursday, two points clear of fifth-placed Louth Town who thrashed visitors Yorkshire Amateur on Tuesday, 7-0, Jack Wightwick with four of their goals.

There was also a 1-0 win for bottom side Grimsby Borough at Dronfield Town whilst Mark Crossfield struck twice in Penistone Church's 3-0 home victory over Winterton Rangers.

We now know who will contest the League Cup Final at Staveley Miners Welfare's Inkersall Road ground on May Day Bank Holiday.

Brian Lawrence and Sam Smith netted for Handsworth Parramore on Wednesday night as they won 2-1 at AFC Mansfield, Joe Naylor pulling one back for the Bulls with eight minutes remaining.

And, two goals each for Brody Robertson and Marc Cooper saw Cleethorpes Town progress with a 4-1 victory at Tadcaster Albion on Thursday.
