Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2014/15 #68
17th April, 2015
There was disappointment for both Louth Town and Garforth Town as they were beaten in County Cup Finals in midweek by higher ranked opposition.
Louth went down 3-0 to Evo-Stik League side Stamford at Lincoln City's Sincil Bank ground in the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy whilst Garforth were beaten 1-0 by Vanarama Conference North outfit Bradford Park Avenue in the West Riding County Cup played at Bradford City's Coral Windows Stadium.
Cleethorpes Town booked the last Semi-Final spot in the Toolstation NCEL League Cup on Tuesday as they beat visitors Clipstone, 3-0, Jack Barlow and Luke Mascall putting them two up by the 26th minute before Louis Grant added a late third.
But, Clipstone did have some cheer in their second midweek match as they kept their Division One title challenge going with a 1-0 home win over Yorkshire Amateur on Thursday, Jamie Smith with the vital strike thirteen minutes from time.
It keeps the second-placed Cobras four points behind the leaders Pontefract Collieries with a game in hand after the West Yorkshire side beat hosts Hemsworth Miners Welfare, 2-1 on Tuesday, Nigel Danby and Aaron Joseph netting in quick succession early in the second period after the home side had taken the lead through Nicholas Guest in first half stoppage time.
That defeat for Hemsworth means they are almost out of the promotion race in fourth spot, eight points behind the top two with four games to play.
AFC Emley kept their hunt for glory going in third with a 3-2 victory at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic but the home side almost staged a second-half comeback after being three goals down at the interval.
Doran Jordan and Max Leonard scored followed by a Daniel Hoyland own goal to give Emley a comfortable cushion before Adam Askwith and Liam Owen brought the hosts back into the game but Emley held on to remain a point behind Clipstone with only two matches remaining.
That game was played on Thursday night, two days after Worsbrough won 3-2 at home to Grimsby Borough, that defeat confirming that the Wilderness Boys were guaranteed to finish the season in a relegation position.
They had fought back to 2-2 after being 2-0 down but a Kyle Bensley own goal gave the hosts the victory with ten minutes remaining.
Dronfield Town were also involved in two matches with a 2-1 home victory over Selby Town on Monday followed by a 5-0 defeat to visitors AFC Mansfield on Wednesday.
And, Knaresborough Town's home match with Winterton Rangers was abandoned with Winterton 2-1 up in stoppage time following a mass brawl involving the players.
Premier Division leaders Shaw Lane Aquaforce edged slightly further away from second-placed Worksop Town but they will be disappointed with a 0-0 home draw with Bridlington Town which means they are two points clear with a game in hand.
Handsworth Parramore were 3-0 winners at Barton Town Old Boys to move up into sixth spot whilst bottom side Glasshoughton Welfare picked up their fourth league victory of the season as Nathan Perks' hat-trick helped them to a 4-1 home victory over Maltby Main.
A couple of late goals saw Nostell Miners Welfare triumph 2-1 over visitors Staveley Miners Welfare and there was a 1-1 draw between Thackley and Heanor Town.
