Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2014/15 #62
27th March, 2015
Bridlington Town and Nostell Miners Welfare are through to their respective County Cup Finals having won their Semi-Final ties in midweek.
Bridlington were 3-2 winners over Westella VIP in a game that was played at the Roy West Centre in Hull, a Matthew Fyvie own goal early in the second half putting them ahead whilst Ombeni Ruhanduka and Craig Hogg gave them a three goal cushion going into the last twenty minutes before there was a late rally by their Central Midlands League opponents.
The Seasiders will now play Hull United for the trophy at Hull City's KC Stadium in May.
Meanwhile, Nostell were 2-1 victors at Toolstation NCEL rivals Maltby Main, James Kitson with the late winner after the hosts' Martin Jones had cancelled out an opener from Dale Kelly.
They will face either Handsworth Parramore or Frickley Athletic in the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup Final at Rotherham United's New York Stadium, also in May.
Speaking of Handsworth, they had cup cheer of their own as they became the first side into the League Cup Semi-Finals as they beat Hallam on Thursday night, 3-0, Richard Tootle broke the deadlock after two minutes before a Sam Smith double in the second period ensured the victory.
In the Premier Division, Shaw Lane Aquaforce won 2-0 at home to Parkgate with goals towards the start of each half from Grant Darley and Shane Kelsey to move the fourth-placed side to within eleven points of leaders Worksop Town with five games in hand as the title race continues to hot up.
Danny Chambers and Scott Phillips struck to earn Barton Town Old Boys a 2-0 victory at Thackley to climb up into sixth spot whilst eight-placed Heanor Town went down to a 1-0 home loss against Garforth Town, Luke Mangham with the solitary goal on fourteen minutes.
And, first half goals from Ryan Smith and Kieron Scargill gave Athersley Recreation a 2-1 win at home to Armthorpe Welfare to move them up into fourteenth spot.
The three top four sides in Division One who were in action in midweek all won and it means there is now only a three point gap between them.
Pontefract Collieries went back to the top above AFC Emley on goal difference with a 7-1 victory at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic.
Adam Askwith had put the home side ahead on 37 minutes but that was quickly cancelled out by Iwan Heeley and then the visitors took the lead on the stroke of half-time through Aaron Moxam whereupon the game was held up for an hour due to a serious injury to Worsbrough keeper Jared Oxley in the run-up to the goal.
That seemed to knock the stuffing out of the home side as, in the second period, Moxam scored three more and Lee Bennett struck twice to complete the win.
A Blake Owen hat-trick kept Clipstone in third spot, now two points off the summit, after their 4-2 home victory over bottom side Grimsby Borough and their near neighbours Shirebrook Town are a further point behind after their 4-0 win at Yorkshire Amateur.
Liam Nelthorpe's first-half opener was added to by a second-period brace from Andre Johnson and Leigh Hutchinson concluded the scoring on 88 minutes.
Teversal moved five points clear of the relegation zone with a 1-1 home draw against Winterton Rangers, Sean Dickinson levelling for the home side after Luke Anderson had given the visitors the lead.
There were away wins for Penistone Church and Louth Town who were victorious 2-0 at Hallam on Tuesday and 3-2 at Dronfield Town the following night, respectively.
And, in a friendly, Retford United drew 1-1 at home to AFC Mansfield.
