Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2014/15 #59
15th March, 2015
The Toolstation NCEL Premier Division title race has swung in Worksop Town's favour after they beat one of their main challengers on Saturday.
The Tigers won 3-0 at home to Shaw Lane Aquaforce thanks to a first half opener from Jake Scott that was added to on the hour by Conor Higginson and in injury-time by Tom Elliott whilst the visitors ended the game with nine men.
It means they are now seven points clear of Tadcaster Albion and Cleethorpes Town, and are thirteen points ahead of fourth-placed Aquaforce who have six games in hand.
Tadcaster lost ground as they could only draw 1-1 at Pickering Town, Tom Claisse rescuing them a point after Billy Logan had given the Pikes a 54th minute lead.
Cleethorpes, meanwhile, were 5-3 home winners over Nostell Miners Welfare, Brody Robertson with a hat-trick as they moved into a 5-0 lead before the visitors staged a mini-comeback in the last twelve minutes.
Heanor Town are up into the top six after their 6-0 victory at struggling Retford United, Sam Jones with a hat-trick for the Lions.
Retford's position remains precarious, next-to-bottom and six points from safety with the side just above them, Liversedge, falling to a 2-1 home defeat by Thackley.
Basement side Glasshoughton Welfare had an even worse afternoon as they were beaten 9-2 at Albion Sports with three goals for Daniel Facey and a double from Brice Tiani amongst the hosts' haul.
Two last-gasp strikes from Joe Lumsden snatched Armthorpe Welfare a 3-2 victory over visitors Barton Town Old Boys, Handsworth Parramore prevailed by a single goal at Garforth Town and Maltby Main were 2-1 winners at Athersley Recreation, Dean Smith with the winner in the 72nd minute.
Aaron Moxam and Liam Radford both netted twice for Pontefract Collieries as they won 5-2 at home to bottom side Grimsby Borough to go top of Division One.
They have gone two points clear of AFC Emley who went down 4-2 at Rossington Main, Cameron Johnson scoring twice on his debut for the home side.
Clipstone are third, behind Emley on goal difference but with three games in hand on the two sides above them, after their 2-1 win at local rivals and fellow promotion challengers, AFC Mansfield.
Richard Mintoft put them ahead in the fourth minute and Robert Paling doubled their advantage with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining before Tristram Whitman pulled one back to give the hosts something to celebrate but Mansfield are now seven points away from the top two in fifth spot with eight games to play.
A Liam Morris hat-trick helped fourth-placed Shirebrook Town to a comfortable 4-1 home win over Hallam despite playing most of the match with ten men.
Hemsworth Miners Welfare complete the top six after Nash Connelly's 67th minute winner in a 1-0 victory at next-to-bottom Lincoln Moorlands Railway.
Late goals from Josh Batty and Declan Marshall saw Winterton Rangers move out of the bottom three at the expense of their visitors Teversal who drop closer to danger after their 3-1 defeat.
There were away wins for Louth Town and Worsbrough Bridge Athletic, 3-0 at Knaresborough Town and 2-1 at Selby Town, respectively.
Eccleshill United won 2-1 at home to Yorkshire Amateur whilst Hall Road Rangers beat visitors Dronfield Town, 2-0, and there was a 2-2 draw for Bottesford Town at Penistone Church.
