Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2014/15 #35

8th December, 2014

At least four Toolstation NCEL sides have made it through to the Fourth Round of the FA Vase, the highest number of teams from our league to reach that stage of the competition in nine seasons.

AFC Mansfield, Heanor Town, Tadcaster Albion and Worksop Town all progressed to the last 32 at the weekend whilst Shaw Lane Aquaforce get a chance to join them when their postponed home clash with Shildon gets played on Tuesday.

If Aquaforce get through, it will equal the five NCEL sides that last made it to the Fourth Round in the 2005/06 season.

Worksop were the only team with a home game as they beat visitors Westfields, 2-1, Conor Higginson and Tom Elliott with the Tigers' goals.

Heanor went through 2-1 after extra-time at Deeping Rangers, Gary Ricketts' with a 91st minute strike after the hosts had forced a further thirty minutes with a late second half leveller.

Tadcaster were three goals up by the 27th minute at St Helens Town, eventually winning 4-2 with Josh Greening getting a double to make it 21 goals for the season in all competitions for him.

And, AFC Mansfield made it four out of four on Sunday as Tristram Whitman's last gasp winner saw them through with a 1-0 victory at Mickleover Royals.

In the Premier Division, Barton Town Old Boys climbed above Bridlington Town into sixth with a 4-1 win at the Euronics Ground, Alex Sherwood's second half double confirming the victory.

Handsworth Parramore also go above the Seasiders into seventh spot as Lee Whittington got both their goals in the opening half hour to win 2-0 at Parkgate.

Scoreline of the day was at Muglet Lane where Maltby Main beat visitors Retford United, 9-3, in a game that was level at 2-2 at the interval, Ben Thornton and Dean Smith getting two each for the home side.

Louis Grant's hat-trick helped Cleethorpes Town to a 6-2 win at Pickering Town whilst Tom Jackson's injury-time equaliser snatched a point for Liversedge in a 1-1 draw at Garforth Town and Athersley Recreation were 3-1 victors at home to Albion Sports.

The top three sides in Division One all won to strengthen their grip on the promotion chase but none of them had easy afternoons with leaders AFC Emley needing an 88th minute winner from Doran Jordan to prevail 3-2 at home to Teversal.

Second placed Clipstone went behind in the second minute to visitors Selby Town but Daniel Wood netted twice to earn a 2-1 victory to stay three points away from the top.

And, Hemsworth Miners Welfare are a further two points behind in third after their 1-0 home win over Shirebrook Town, an 83rd minute goal from Nicholas Guest breaking the deadlock.

Bottesford Town are up into fourth thanks to Terry Barwick's injury-time winner in a 2-1 victory at home to Worsbrough Bridge Athletic as they leapfrog Pontefract Collieries who were beaten 4-2 at Louth Town, Steve Norton getting two of the hosts' goals.

Basement side Grimsby Borough's misery continues as they were beaten 5-0 at home by Hallam with a brace each for Jake Wright and Steve Brammer.

There were 3-3 draws for Lincoln Moorlands Railway at home to Hall Road Rangers and for Dronfield Town at Yorkshire Amateur.

And, there was late drama at Church View Road as Lewis Dickinson popped up in stoppage time to snatch a 3-2 home win for Penistone Church against Rossington Main.
