Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2014/15 #4
21st August, 2014
Three of the four Toolstation NCEL sides involved in FA Cup with Budweiser replays in midweek secured the victories they needed to progress to the Preliminary Round.
The most impressive result was Bridlington Town's who went to Northern League side Whitley Bay and beat them, 1-0, courtesy of a dramatic injury time winner from Ombeni Ruhanduka.
But, there was also great joy for Armthorpe Welfare and Retford United as they won their Extra Preliminary Round replays.
Armthorpe took the lead at home to Guisborough Town through Adam Lee's penalty on seven minutes but were 2-1 down by the break before Joe Lumsden brought them level early in the second period and Welfare then went through 3-2 on penalties.
A brace from Liam Wilkin, added to Leigh Hutchinson's opener, ensured a 3-1 win for Retford at Stapenhill whilst there was disappointment for Shirebrook Town who bowed out, 2-1, at Loughborough University.
It means that seventeen NCEL sides will contest the next round of the FA Cup at the end of the month.
The League Cup also got underway in midweek with five of the six First Round matches taking place, Penistone Church booking a Second Round clash at Cleethorpes Town by winning 2-1 at home to Teversal.
Lee Naughton put the visitors ahead at the start of the game but Paul Lavender levelled on 33 minutes and Duncan Richards netted the winner in the second period.
The other four winners, Clipstone, Pontefract Collieries, Selby Town and Yorkshire Amateur get a bye through to the Third Round.
Goals from Matty Ord and Daniel Wood saw Clipstone through with a 4-2 extra-time victory over Hemsworth Miners Welfare at the Worksop Van Hire Stadium.
Pontefract also needed extra-time to progress at home to Dronfield Town, Craig Rouse with the winner in the 115th minute after they had been twice pegged back by the visitors in normal time.
Matty Start struck twice in Selby's 3-1 win over Louth Town at the Fairfax Plant Hire Stadium and there were two goals each for Dempsey Smith and Curtis Bernard as the Ammers' beat Hall Road Rangers, 4-0, to make it five home wins out of five in the midweek League Cup games.
Handsworth Parramore are top of the Premier Division following their 3-0 victory at Maltby Main, Nicky Travis, Lee Whittington and Vill Powell getting on the scoresheet for the Amber Parras.
Cleethorpes Town are just behind them in second spot as a Louis Grant hat-trick helped them to a 6-1 home win over Parkgate.
First half goals from Lee Bennett and Josh Moore were enough for Athersley Recreation to get all three points, 2-1 against visitors Nostell Miners Welfare, Joel Ramm got the only goal of the game as Glasshoughton Welfare were beaten at Pickering Town and Staveley Miners Welfare were 5-1 winners over Thackley at Inkersall Road.
In the only midweek Division One game, two goals from Simon Mowbray and a George Asplin strike saw Lincoln Moorlands Railway win 3-0 at Hallam to climb into fifth spot.
