More New Faces at Glasshoughton
9th June, 2011
Glasshoughton Welfare have strengthened their existing management team as they look to build on their successful 2010/11 season which culminated in winning the Wilkinson Sword Trophy for the first time in the club's history.
Manager Craig Elliott has recruited ex-Pontefract Collieries manager and assistant Simon Houghton and Darren Smith as assistant manager and first team chief scout.
He said: "I have known Simon a good few years now and, even when he was manager of our closest rivals Pontefract, we talked on regular basis.
"We have always shared the same football beliefs and ideas and both he and Daz will add experience and new ideas to ensure that off the pitch, our management team is strong."
After struggling for the last few seasons, Glasshoughton are very much a team on the rise but manager Craig is keen to keep grounded, adding: "It's important that we continue to look forward.
"Winning a trophy was great last season but that's history now and it's a fresh start for everyone next season.
"That's why I was keen to strengthen the management team and ensure all aspects of football are covered from both a fitness and tactical perspective to the team spirit.
"I feel that my management team will do just that.
"The league was tight last season and I expect the same next season but, with all key players returning and one or two key signings, we will look to improve on our seventh place finish last season."
In addition, Craig's father Ged Elliott will be moving into a role of general manager.
He will deal with off-the-pitch issues, liaising with the committee and securing much needed sponsorships for the team.
Anyone interested in sponsorship options is encouraged to ring Ged on 07999 800994 or contact the club directly.

Award For Glasshoughton Secretary
19th November, 2010
Barry Bennett, the Match Secretary at KoolSport NCEL Division One side, Glasshoughton Welfare was, for once, unable to be with the team at their recent Wilkinson Sword Trophy tie at Askern Villa.
Instead, in his role as Chairman of the Castleford & District FA, he was at the Annual Dinner where he was presented with an award by Peter Marsden, the President of the West Riding County FA, to commemorate 45 years service - he has actually done 53! - to local football.
Also receiving an award was the Glasshoughton Treasurer George Jackson to mark ten years service as Life Member to the Castleford & District FA.
Congratulations to them both from all of us here at the KoolSport NCEL.
New Boss at Glasshoughton
23rd July, 2010
After interviewing a short list of five candidates, Glasshoughton Welfare have appointed Craig Elliott as manager at Leeds Road.
The club say that all the candidates interviewed extremely well and Craig took it by a very short neck.
Although having a relatively short managerial career, Craig has enjoyed success albeit on a local level but Welfare are supremely confident that he will continue that success at Leeds Road.
A former player at Glasshoughton, Craig went on to play at Hatfield Main, Harrogate Town, Guiseley, Farsley Celtic, Stocksbridge Park Steels and Football League club Doncaster Rovers before retiring to go in to coaching and obtaining his UEFA 'B' coach (level 3) pass.
Craig brings as his right hand man another former Glasshoughton player, Paul Mattison, who had a number of years as a professional at Darlington.
