Seasiders Boss To Step Down
24th April, 2011
Gary Allanson is to step down as Bridlington Town manager at the end of the season.
A statement released by Peter Smurthwaite, the chairman of the KoolSport NCEL Premier Division club, says it is because of personal reasons due to other football commitments.
It continues: "Gary has done an excellent job in his three seasons with the club, winning the League championship last season, and we have never been out of the top four in these three seasons.
"His teams have always played attractive football and, despite problems with injuries and player availability this season, he has still managed to keep the club in the title race until the final week of the season.
"A lot of people do not realise the time effort and commitment needed to manage a club at this level and Gary, being the ultimate professional, does not believe he could continue to do this in the future with his other commitments at work and at Hull City FC.
"We agreed to make this announcement at this time to allow us to find an adequate replacement as soon as possible for next season and Gary has been helping in this process.
"I hope there will be a good turnout of fans to give their thanks to Gary for what he has achieved in his time at the club.
"We are confident we can retain the majority of the playing squad and I have asked Phil Harrison, who has so ably assisted Gary over the past, to stay with the club in his current capacity as player/assistant manager and continue the excellent support he has also given me in his long time at this club.
"This club has gone from strength to strength in recent years and there will be no shortage of candidates wanting to manage this club in the future, unlike the situation when I first took over.
"It goes without saying Gary will always be welcome back at the club any time he wants and it has been a real pleasure to work with him.
"I have never had to worry about the football side of the club which has been so well organised and managed.
"And from all at Bridlington Town football club we wish Gary all the very best for the future."

Chairman Peter Smurthwaite, pictured left with the strip, told the Free Press: "We thought today, April 1, was the ideal day to give the Queensgate fans their first look at our polka dot kit.
"I think we will be the first club in the country to have such a radical and eye-catching design. We are just waiting to see if we can get Clearasil to sponsor it."
Eagle-eyed fans, though, quickly realised that it was an April Fool and one that knocked spots off the rest of the day's fake stories.
