Mason steps down from Parkgate helm

15th October, 2026

Parkgate have announced that Scott Mason, aka Nebsy, has resigned from his position as manager of the Macron NCEL Premier Division side during his fifth season in charge.

Mason took over in August 2022 at a time of turmoil for the Steelmen as he became the third manager at the club in the opening few weeks of that season.

But, the stability he brought to Green Lane was rewarded with Parkgate's promotion to the Macron NCEL Premier Division in 2024 in a return to the top flight after six seasons in Division One.

It was part of a fantastic campaign that also saw them lift the JCP Construction League Cup to claim the double.

Mason's departure comes after a tough start to the current season that saw Parkgate drop into the bottom two of the table following a 5-1 loss at Golcar United on Tuesday night.

The club, however, have fully focussed on the achievements made under his spell in charge, saying: "What Scott has accomplished in those five seasons has been incredible, something that all involved with at the club will talk about for years to come."

Mason has also given a final statement, thanking the club's officials, his management team, his players and the supporters.

He said: "I’ve put my heart, sweat, tears and countless hours into Parkgate, both on the phone and at the side of the pitch, and I’ve loved every minute of it.

"We’ve had some amazing times, most notably our double-winning season, lifting the NCEL Division One title and League Cup, beating Emley in the final at Scunthorpe United.

"Some of the achievements that have followed may not have brought trophies, but they have been incredible in their own right.

"Under different circumstances, time and time again, we’ve discovered and developed new talent at Parkgate FC.

"One of the things I’m proud of is that [my son] Luca, aka ‘Little Nebsy’, has been on this journey with me and the teams we’ve created. These will be some of my fondest memories.

"It’s now time for me to recharge my batteries, take a breather for a little while and concentrate on life outside of Parkgate.

"All that’s left for me to say is that I’ve absolutely loved my time with Parkgate, and the club will always hold a special place in my heart.

"I look forward to coming back in the future, standing on the other side of the barriers as a supporter and cheering the team on."
