Hindley leaves Badgers after four-and-a-half years at the helm

9th October, 2026

Macron NCEL Premier Division side Retford United have announced that Ryan Hindley has resigned from his position as manager following interest from higher up the FA's National League System.

Badgers chairman Nik Springthorpe has revealed in a statement released on the club's website that Hindley has been given an exciting opportunity to manage at Step 3, two divisions above the Cannon Park side.

He added: "Whilst naturally I am extremely disappointed to see Ryan leave us, I also recognise that opportunities like this are a reflection of the outstanding job he has done at Retford United Football Club over the past four-and-a-half years.

"During his time with us, Ryan has achieved something truly special. Two promotions, countless memorable moments and, perhaps most importantly, a real sense of togetherness and belief throughout our football club.

"Ryan has been much more than just our manager. He has been a loyal, dedicated and thoroughly professional individual who has given everything to this club.

"His commitment, passion and desire to succeed have never been in question, and he leaves with the enormous respect of myself, the Board, our players, staff, volunteers and, of course, our wonderful supporters.

"Football is an emotional game, and when someone has been such an important part of your club for so long, saying goodbye is never easy.

"However, I have always believed that when people give their all to your football club, you should never stand in the way of an opportunity for them to progress.

"Ryan has earned this opportunity, and although we will miss him enormously, he goes with my wholehearted support and very best wishes."

Hindley's assistant James Colliver will take over as manager, the club have also announced, in order to keep continuity for the Badgers who currently find themselves third in the Premier Division table.
