Change of management at Wakefield AFC
4th September, 2026
Wakefield AFC have announced a new manager at the Macron NCEL Division One club following the resignation of their previous boss Jason Blunt.
They have revealed that Blunt had informed the board of directors of his decision to step down on Thursday - it was accepted and takes effect immediately.
The statement released on social media continued: "Our plan was to keep the management team in place for the whole season and Jason had our full backing throughout his time at the club, including full authority over football matters. We thank him for his time at the club.
"Following careful consideration, and in line with the long term direction the club is taking, the board decided to change direction and is pleased to announce that Adam Lockwood has joined Wakefield AFC as a board member and shareholder.
"Adam will take overall responsibility for the football and commercial operations of the club, and will represent the ownership group in Wakefield and the wider community.
"He will take charge of the first team with immediate effect, with Mark Maspero assisting, and over the next few weeks will evaluate the club’s current capabilities and agree on a long term football structure.
"Adam is a former professional player and manager who has worked closely with us over the past five years and we believe his appointment strengthens the ownership group at an important moment for the club.
"It also allows the board to concentrate fully on securing a permanent home for Wakefield AFC, which remains our central priority."
Wakefield's next game is a home league game with Crowle Colts on Saturday afternoon, kick-off 3pm.
