Macron NCEL 2026/27 Match Review #28

29th October, 2026

Kinsley Boys are the final side to make it through to the Third Round of this season’s JCP Construction League Cup in memory of James Hitchcock after a win over Macron NCEL Premier Division hosts Worsbrough Bridge Athletic.

They caused an upset courtesy of first half goals from Akram Lasalire and Mackai Davies before Joseph Booth struck a late consolation for the Briggers.

Kinsley are one of five Division One sides left in the competition out of the sixteen taking part at the next stage.

There was one midweek game in the Premier Division with Knaresborough Town climbing to seventh, one point off the play-off zone, with a 3-2 win at next-to-bottom Parkgate.

Jack Degruchy’s opener for the visitors was cancelled out by Marcus McKernan before Benjamin Gelder’s strike was also matched by the home side by Joshua Nodder, all in the opening 34 minutes.

Gelder then got his second and what proved to be his team’s winner early in the second period.

The rest of the action was in county cups with Rossington Main going through to the Quarter-Finals of the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup following a home victory over former NCEL side Dinnington Town.

Oliver Nowak and Oliver Currie were their scorers in the opening half and, although their visitors pulled one back on the hour mark, it was Main who progressed.

Handsworth, however, bowed out with a 4-2 loss at home to another of our former sides, Sheffield, Jordan Hines and James Simmonite with the Ambers’ goals.

Meanwhile, in the First Round of the West Riding County Cup, an Alex Ingham double helped Thackley to a 3-1 win at Albion Sports.

Alfie King also got on the scoresheet for the Dennyboys before Junior Nasihunu found the net for the hosting Lions with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining.

South Leeds picked up a fine win at Bradford (Park Avenue), an own goal added to by a brace from Warren Carr in their 3-2 victory over their higher-ranked opposition.

And, Oli Johnson and George Whittaker were the scorers as Horbury Town won 2-0 at Leeds UFCA in another all-NCEL tie.
