New management team at Golcar
15th June, 2025
Macron NCEL Premier Division side Golcar United have unveiled their new management team as preparations build for the upcoming 2025/26 season.
There has been a change in the dugout at the Skye Direct Stadium for the first time in almost twelve years after brothers Ashley and Gavin Connor stepped down from their roles.
And, with the new campaign just weeks away, Golcar have wasted no time in finding their replacement with former captain Joe Skarz being installed as their new head coach.
He will need no introduction to the Weavers faithful having played and captained the team between 2020 and 2023, making 98 appearances and scoring five goals.
Skarz brings with him a wealth of experience from a distinguished playing career, which included spells at Huddersfield Town, Bury, Rotherham United and Oxford United.
He also has strong local roots and a deep understanding of the game, and his leadership, professionalism and passion for both football and Golcar United are what, the club believes, make him the ideal man to take them forward.
Skarz has been coaching for the past nine years, achieving all FA coaching qualifications during this time and has most recently been the First Team Development coach at Rotherham United.
A statement released by the club said: "As we enter a new chapter, we are confident that Joe will build on the strong foundations laid over the past eleven years by former managers, Ash and Gav, and continue to drive the club's ambitions both on and off the pitch.
"We would like to extend a warm welcome back to Joe from everyone at Golcar United. We look forward to an exciting new era under his guidance."
Speaking to club's website, Skarz said: "I'm absolutely delighted.
"It's a club I've got a real affiliation to and played here a few years ago under Ash and Gav, the previous managers- both of whom I've got a lot of respect for.
"I've spoken to them both before taking this role and told them they reinvigorated my love for football when they brought me here.
"It's going to be a tough job to follow on from but I'm really excited to come in and help progress the club."
Skarz's assistant will be former Weavers goalkeeper Graham McLachlan and the pair have already started building their squad for the new Premier Division campaign that begins towards the end of July.
