Ex-Huddersfield keeper is new Emley coach

17th June, 2016

Huddersfield Town old-boy Matt Glennon has become goalkeeping coach at Toolstation NCEL Division One side AFC Emley.

The 37-year-old ex-England semi-professional international spent four years at Huddersfield, making 122 appearances, and he brings a wealth of experience to the Pewits, including plenty of non-league football.

The former Bolton Wanderers apprentice also played in the league for Hull City, Carlisle United, Falkirk, St Johnstone, Bradford City and Stockport County.

Glennon, whose stints at both Carlisle and Stockport included spells in the National League, then played for Chester and FC Halifax Town before joining Scarborough Athletic at the start of the year.

He will work alongside manager Darren Hepworth as Emley look to go one better than last year when they missed out on promotion to the Premier Division in the play-off final.

Emley announce physiotherapy partner

16th June, 2016

AFC Emley have appointed North Light Physiotherapy as the club's Official Physiotherapy Partner.

The Huddersfield-based practice will help limit lost playing time for the club's first team players with advice on injury prevention and treatment for players out of action.

North Light offer physiotherapy for all types of injuries - sporting and non-sporting - and have a long track record working with private and NHS-referred clients.

Principal practice physiotherapist Chris Liversidge, who also works with Yorkshire County Cricket Club, said: "AFC Emley is a big club locally and rightly attract lots of attention and spectators. We're delighted to enter into this partnership to help grow our business and keep the Emley lads where they need to be - on the pitch and pushing for every point."

While current club physios John Mason and Joanna Dickens will continue to work with the team on match days, North Light will primarily work with the squad between games and at training.

AFC Emley first team manager Darren Hepworth said: "Not many teams at our level of football have ready access to the knowledge and expertise that Chris and his associates will bring so this is a huge boost to the club."

Chairman of AFC Emley Nigel Wakefield said: "One day at a time, inch by inch, we continue to make improvements across the club and the partnership with North Light Physiotherapy takes us on to another level. Chris will help us and we're hoping we will help him and the business."

The partnership will see North Light become the title sponsors of the AFC Emley Man of the Match award at every first team game as well as promotion around the ground, in the programme and online.

AFC Emley welcome enquires from other companies who wish to explore partnerships and sponsorship. To enquire, email office@afcemley.co.uk or visit their website by clicking here.

Volunteer vacancies at AFC Emley

25th May, 2016

AFC Emley are looking to fill three voluntary roles at the Toolstation NCEL Division One side ahead of the 2016/17 season.

The club is the football section of the Emley Moor Miners Recreation Ground and Institute, a charity based in West Yorkshire.

They provide opportunities for local footballers to play and develop. They have an active volunteer-base that supports the club on and off the field. All their activities are managed and run by volunteers.

Community officer
AFC Emley is looking for a community officer who can help them connect with the village of Emley and surrounding areas.

This person will know the value partnerships can bring and can spot opportunities to work with a wide variety of groups.

The community officer will help raise the profile of the club and look to get the community into their facility. You'll be hands on too - ideas are great but the club are looking for someone to get involved with delivering those ideas.

They will also help bring local junior sides into the club for VIP match day experiences across the season.

You don't have to be an out-and-out football fan, although it may help - more important is a willingness to make this opportunity your own and drive engagement around the HD8 area.

Commercial officer
When it comes to recognition and reach, AFC Emley already punch well above their weight - a fact recognised by excellent businesses who are already part of their family of sponsors - such as Integra, Fantastic Media, Kalcrest, WM Sykes and more.

Now they need someone to help take them on to the next level. The club have several commercial and sponsorship avenues to pursue but they're looking for someone to build relationships with potential partners, sponsors and advertisers.

Over time, you'll become the face of the club to local business. The right person will be passionate about the club and be able to sell the benefits to businesses - big and small - throughout the area. The right person will fit the right opportunity to the right business and follow through on the deal to deliver on the promises made.

You'll also be happy to organise events to welcome existing, new and potential sponsors/advertisers to the club.

Stadium announcer
The club is keen to improve the match day experience for supporters and visiting fans, so they're looking for a stadium announcer for first team home games.

You'll work with the match day secretary and club press officer to deliver match information before, during and after the game. You'll also be relaying key messages to supporters whether about sponsors and special offers to latest scores and forthcoming fixtures.

Expenses and contact information
AFC Emley are not able to pay any travelling expenses and note Emley is a rural village with limited public transport so please keep this in mind if interested. As with all their volunteers, you'll be made very welcome at the club and will enjoy the chance to watch matches for free.

To register your interest in these opportunities, please email an application to office@afcemley.co.uk or call Andrew on 07931 353515 to discuss.

All adverts will remain open until suitable people have been found.

Emley support Men United cancer campaign

13th April, 2016

AFC Emley has designated their home fixture with Eccleshill United on Saturday (16th April) as 'Men United Day' to raise money and awareness of the Prostate Cancer UK campaign.

The idea is the brainchild of the Toolstation NCEL Division One club's first team coach Pat Piearcey who works at Sheffield United's Community Foundation. Pat will join a team who will cycle from Sheffield to Emley in time for kick off.

As well as Emley players warming up in Men United T-shirts, there will be collections and raffles for the cause as well as campaign lapel badges for sale. Information will be available to supporters and also in the club's match-day programme.

Pat, who will also be cycling from Barnsley to Amsterdam in June as part of the Football League's fundraising efforts, said: "Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK. One in eight men will get the cancer at some point in their lives. The club are giving me incredible support to try and change that statistic."

Club chairman Nigel Wakefield said: "Pat came to us with this idea and we're delighted to be able to back him in his efforts. Hopefully our event will heighten awareness of this all too common cancer and top up the fund with a few quid."

Fantastic boost for AFC Emley

6th March, 2016

AFC Emley's home has been renamed the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground in an historic naming rights deal with the Birstall-based marketing agency.

It's a rolling contract between the club, who were founded in 2005, and the marketing agency.

The agreement came after a chance meeting between AFC Emley president Dan Brownhill and Fantastic Media managing director Andy Hobson, who was at the Welfare Ground watching his relative and AFC Emley Under-19 goalkeeper George Kitchen.

Fantastic Media, celebrating its tenth year as one of the region's leading marketing agencies, has a history of sports sponsorship.

They have been involved with a number of professional football clubs across the region, most prominently at the John Smith's Stadium, home of Huddersfield Town, where they have been sponsors of the Family (North) Stand since 2008.

It is the first time in AFC Emley's history that they have had a ground sponsor.

Few clubs at their level have such agreements and the move is indicative of the professionalism of the club's committee.

It is hoped that in attracting a business with the profile of Fantastic Media, other local companies will come on board.

Brownhill explained: "To sign up such a well-known and well-regarded company is a huge boost to the club.

"Yes it helps the bank balance but it also shows we're on the right path with how we do things at Emley.

"We hope the tie-up with Fantastic Media will encourage other businesses to see what we're about."

Hobson said: "I knew from watching Emley and from speaking to people that it is a terrific club and one that is very well run. For us, it was an opportunity to get involved with a great club at a grassroots level.

"We're well known in the region for being involved in sports sponsorship and marketing.

"This year we're supporting England Women's football captain Steph Houghton and Yorkshire County Cricket Club captain Andrew Gale for his benefit year.

"Our support of Emley is different to anything we've done before.

"It's more about what we can do to assist them in whatever way we can - whether through attracting other businesses to get involved or bring new supporters in."
