Gill given Rangers reins permanently

20th September, 2017

Hall Road Rangers have announced that temporary manager Bill Gill has been given the role on a permanent basis.

He took over earlier this month after the shock departure of David Ricardo and chairman Darren Sunley says he has done enough to convince everyone at the club that he is the right man for the job, explaining: "Bill has always put 100% effort in and understands the ethos of the club and where we want to go.

"He also has great experience, and has already shown his dedication to the club, and I personally want Bill to grow with the club as we move forward, which is the reason we are investing in his next coaching level through the UEFA A licence.

"The team are also fully behind him and that shows the respect he has gained from them since joining the club."

In a statement, Gill said: "I am very grateful of this opportunity and overwhelmed by the commitment of the club, chairman and committee who have agreed to support me through my A License qualification over the next two years whilst undertaking the role of first team manager.

"Darren [Sunley] and [vice chairman] Lee Myers, who are the driving force behind everything at the club, have spoken about their ambitions for the club, and their desire to provide aspiration to all the young players at the club from u7s right through to u19s and the reserves.

"I am already fortunate to inherit a superb group of players that I have worked closely with for the last eighteen months and intend to try bring back some previous players that helped win the league last season whilst trying to achieve maximum output from the current squad.

"My aim is to change a few things tactically and apply all my tactical knowledge and experience to the role whilst making some tweaks to the current day-to-day running of things, that I've maybe had the experience with at a higher level working with the likes of Phil Parkinson, Martin Allen and Kevin Blackwell, professionally.

"My long term aim is also to structure a relationship with the reserves and under 18s teams to ensure we are developing youngsters within the club, that can move higher at their own age group and also get call ups to the first team when required.

"We have some of the best youth coaches around at the club so applying these changes will be very simple and respected throughout I have no doubt about that.

"The chairman has also appointed Andy Watts as my assistant in the process and I'm looking forward to helping Andy achieve his badges and establish himself as a prominent coach at this level.

"Andy is keen and always gets things done, his passion for the game is clear to see and hear on game days.

"Harry Stanforth will remain in charge of statistics and opposition analysis whilst completing his university degree.

"Harry is another key member of the group, providing up-to-date info for game day and training.

"Finally, I want to take this opportunity to express my respect to Dave Ricardo the previous manager, to whom I have worked closely with for the last three seasons - it was a difficult decision and situation for me, knowing Dave personally.

"He has supported me these last two weeks, showing true respect by understanding my development as a coach and encouraging me to take on the role permanently.

"Dave is a top guy and will no doubt be short of offers and be back in the game imminently."
