Champions League winner rejoins Brewers
31st December, 2015
Tadcaster Albion have announced the re-signing of midfielder Jonathan Greening following his recent departure from York City.
Greening, who won the Champions League with Manchester United in 1999, teams up with his brother Josh once again having originally signed for the Brewers in September 2014.
After such a sad time for not just the club but for the whole town of Tadcaster with the horrendous flooding and bridge collapse, this news will certainly be a massive boost for all.
Many volunteers were down at the i2i Stadium on Wednesday beginning Operation Clean-Up after the disastrous floods and these varied from fans, friends, other clubs, Tadcaster staff, council members, aid agencies and a Treble winner as Jonathan Greening himself was down at the ground helping to tidy the mess left behind by the awful weather.
Greening said: "I contacted the chairman Matt and was really pleased that the club wanted me as they are currently top of the league and are flying. If I can help them achieve promotion it would be fantastic.
"Hopefully, my experience of winning promotion in the professional game will support the club's ambition for this season.
"My family and my sons in particular are over the moon I have returned to Taddy as they love coming down to the i2i Stadium. I can't wait to get going and I will be down at training tonight."
Manager Billy Miller said: "It's a brilliant signing for us, look at the experience already within the squad and adding Jonathan to it will only enhance the team all round.
"Obviously having previously held a coaching role with York, this builds on the wealth of experience that we currently have at the club.
It is also a much needed lift for the club after the awful events in Tadcaster over the recent days."
Chairman Matthew Gore said: "It's fantastic news for everyone involved with Tadcaster Albion. Jono contacted us early in the week and we didn't hesitate in securing his signature. He is superb on and off the pitch.
"To have a Manchester United treble winner and West Bromwich Albion captain in your team is quite something. I saw him play recently for York City and he was outstanding.
"Last season he gave the club a real boost and we know he will have the same impact again."
Greening is expected to go straight into the squad for Saturday's trip to Pontefract Collieries.
