McCarron and Pembleton take charge of Zebras
5th April, 2025
Brigg Town have moved quickly to appoint their new management team following the recent departure of Brett Agnew and his assistant Joe Lamplough.
A statement released on social media by the NCEL Division One club has announced that players Stephen McCarron and Martin Pembleton have moved into the dugout with immediate effect.
The Zebras' directors said: "Both have been at the club for a number of years and have, between them, played hundreds of games for the club.
"They now begin a new chapter in their journey with us.
"We would also like to go on record and thank Brett and Joe for their two years here and wish them well in the future.
"They were both a credit to the club, and we thank them for all their efforts both on the pitch and also with the hard work off the pitch that not everyone sees.”
McCarron said of his appointment: "I'm incredibly proud to take on this new role.
"Having had the privilege of captaining Brigg Town, I've experienced the highs and lows that come with representing this club.
"Now, alongside a great friend who's been on this journey with me, Pembo, I'm excited to embark on this new chapter.
"We're looking forward to building something special together."
Pembleton added: "It's a pinch-me kind of moment, but both of us are honoured to be appointed as the new managers of Brigg Town FC.
"Firstly, I would just like to place on record a huge thanks to Brett Agnew and Joe Lamplough for giving me the opportunity to join their coaching staff last season.
"I truly appreciate the experience I gained from them both, and I wish them nothing but the best for the future.
"Secondly, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the club for giving me and Macca the opportunity to take on this role and for showing the trust and belief in us.
"To be able to start this journey with a good friend makes it all the more special.
"As a duo, we are committed to building a strong, competitive squad that not only plays with passion and pride but also reflects the values of the club and its community.
"We aim to create an environment where every player has the opportunity to grow, improve, and contribute to the success of Brigg Town.
"We will strive for excellence in every aspect, both on and off the pitch, and we look forward to a bright future together with the club and its supporters."
The change comes after Brigg's play-off hopes ended last weekend, mutually agreeing with Agnew to part ways with the club citing that the "partnership has become unmanageable due to matters off the pitch due to a suspension."
Chairman Jim Huxford paid tribute to Agnew, saying: "I would like to put on record my thanks to Brett for all he has done over the last two seasons.
"He has been great for me as a chairman and I wish him all the best in the future."
