Bridgewater resigns as Bolsover boss

10th October, 2017

FC Bolsover have revealed that manager Andy Bridgewater has stepped down after feeling that his position had become "untenable with certain factions within the club."

He resigned after last Tuesday's Derbyshire Senior Cup First Round defeat against landlords Shirebrook Town where Bolsover led with two minutes remaining but ended up losing 2-1.

The club have announced Bridgewater's departure "with great sadness", adding: "He felt that he couldn't move forward at this point in time with Bolsover and, for the best interests of the club, decided to walk away.

"We would like to go on record and thank Andy for picking up the club with no team in place during pre-season and giving us a fantastic start to our NCEL campaign - his efforts have been tremendous and everything he did was for the club and the players.

"Andy is always welcome here at Bolsover and I'm sure we will see his face at the games again supporting his home town team. We all wish Andy the very best going forward and we know he will reciprocate that."

Dean Ledger has stepped up from assistant manager to become interim boss, Josh Thomas and Jonney Rushby will assist whilst Simon Dye stays on as player-coach.

The club statement continued: "After some positive conversations, the board feel that Dean will continue Andy's good work for the club's immediate future.

"Dean took the team to Knaresborough Town [on Saturday] where we were beaten 4-0. However, since his appointment [on Monday], the hard work starts from now.

"We will look to get a reaction against Retford United this Saturday."
