Barford running for charity this weekend

8th September, 2017

Winterton Rangers goalkeeper and Toolstation NCEL veteran Jody Barford is taking part in the Simplyhealth Great North Run this Sunday raising money for charity.

He will be wearing bib number 9099 as he takes on the half marathon in aid of the charity Cardiac Risk in the Young.

On his JustGiving page, Jody writes: "After last year's success and help from you all, I completed the Humber Half Marathon and raised a lot of money for the British Lung Foundation. Again, in memory of my late mum, I am at it again!

"As my mum loved to help others, my aim is to complete an event (maybe more) each year to remember her and do something she would be proud of.

"As I have a connection with the North East and been a spectator at the event I always thought I would like to do it and now......I am!

"The charity itself has been brought to my attention as I have played football for a number of years and recently have heard so many stories of young people losing their lives suddenly on the pitch and would like to do a little bit to help.

"Every week in the UK, at least twelve apparently fit and healthy young people die of undiagnosed cardiac conditions.

"With your donation, CRY can reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death (YSCD) by working with cardiologists and family doctors to establish good practice and appropriate screening facilities to promote and protect the cardiac health of our young.

"By supporting CRY you will help save young lives from these potentially fatal cardiac conditions.

"See how your support can help by visiting www.c-r-y.org.uk."

All at the NCEL wish Jody the very best of luck this weekend - click here to help him reach his target of ?2,000.
