Route One Rovers are the first side through to this season's Semi-Finals of the JCP Construction NCEL Cup in memory of James Hitchcock after their 2-0 home win over Handsworth in midweek.Zak Khan struck twice to take his season's tally to 49, the first a tenth minute penalty that was added to in the last quarter-of-an-hour to seal a win for the Division One hosts at the expense of their Premier Division opponents.
Meanwhile, the tie between
Frickley Athletic and visitors
Liversedge was one of two games involving Macron NCEL sides that were postponed and those two will now meet at the end of the month to try and join Rovers in the last four.
In the Premier Division, basement side
Wombwell Town were just a couple of minutes from picking up a priceless win at
Penistone Church following Gavin Allott's opener for them on 39 minutes, tucking away the rebound after his initial penalty had been saved.
But, Liam Clayton struck late on for the hosts to make it a 1-1 draw, a result that leaves Church in fifteenth spot whilst Wombwell slightly close the gap to safety to eight points and with two games in hand.
There were also draws in the two Division One matches that took place with Harry Clapham netting a hat-trick in
Selby Town's 3-3 stalemate with visitors
South Leeds.
Anane Wireko had struck twice and Isaac Acquah had also scored to give Leeds a 3-1 lead going into the 88th minute but Clapham's quick double meant the spoils were shared.
Meanwhile, Bayley Lowe's 48th minute equaliser ensured a point apiece for
Armthorpe Welfare and
Winterton Rangers in a 1-1 home draw after Liam White had put the away side in front midway through the opening period.
Leeds move out of the relegation zone whilst Armthorpe, Selby and Winterton are tenth, thirteenth and eighteenth, respectively.
In the Quarter-Finals of the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup,
Dearne & District put up a dogged performance at National North side Worksop Town.
But, despite a goal from Adam Baskerville, they went down 3-1 in what was a tight game that belied the four-division gap between the two teams.
The other Quarter-Final, an all-NCEL tie between
Sheffield and
Rossington Main, was the other game to be postponed due to a waterlogged pitch and will now be played next Tuesday.
