A 2-0 win at Tadcaster Albion confirmed Hallam second place on Saturday in the penultimate weekend of action this season in the NCEL Premier Division. With Silsden AFC crowned champions last weekend, the Countrymen ensured they will finish runners-up as Rio Allan's second half double secured the points for Craig Denton's side.
It means they will have a home tie in the Semi-Finals of the Play-Offs that take place in a fortnight's time as will
Golcar United who will end the season in third spot.
Golcar staged a remarkable comeback as they were 3-0 down at
Handsworth with thirteen minutes remaining after a Mitchell Dunne brace sandwiching a Harry Jessop strike seemingly secured the Ambers the victory.
But, George Doyle began the revival, Jerome Bedeau added a second before Doyle pounced again in stoppage time to ensure the spoils were shared in a 3-3 draw.
Three teams are left to contest the remaining two play-off spaces with sixth-placed Albion Sports' hopes of climbing into the top five boosted by dropped points for the two sides above them.
Beverley Town stay fourth, three points ahead of Sports who were without a game, as they were beaten 4-0 at home by
Penistone Church, Samuel Scrivens scoring twice with one each for Thomas Brennan and Luca Defalco for the visitors.
And,
Thackley drew 2-2 at home with
Goole AFC, an 89th minute equaliser from Shay Muirhead by the Vikings keeping the Dennyboys in fifth, a point behind Beverley.
Kyle Austin had put Goole in front midway through the first half but that was quickly cancelled out by Tawheed Ahmed before George Green had given the hosts hope of a big win with just under a quarter-of-an-hour remaining.
Goole remain next-to-bottom but the gap between themselves and basement side
Winterton Rangers is down to two points as Rangers won 2-1 at
Campion, Max Doughty and Reece Moody with their goals before a late consolation for the hosts from Michael O'Brien.
Both Winterton and Goole are confirmed to finish in the relegation zone but the battle to avoid finishing in the basement and increase any chances of a reprieve goes to the final round of matches next weekend.
Elsewhere, a hat-trick for Grant Tait, two from the penalty spot, helped
Barton Town to a 3-2 win at
Eccleshill United whilst Theodore Hudson, Aaron White and William Lenehan all netted in the first half for
Knaresborough Town as they defeated visitors
Bottesford Town 3-0.
The title race in Division One is extended for another week as leaders
Horbury Town were beaten 2-0 at
Ilkley Town whose victory bolsters their hopes of a play-off spot.
The game was goalless until the last six minutes when Joe Snowden and then Toby Marriott struck to make sure that fifth-placed Ilkley have a four point cushion to finish in the top five with two matches remaining.
A win for Horbury and defeats for the two sides who could still catch them would have seen them lift the trophy but the opposite happened with victories for
Wakefield AFC and
Wombwell Town closing the gap to four points.
Wakefield were 4-0 home winners over
Armthorpe Welfare, Kiyani Clayton's first half double added to after the interval by Jaydan Sandhu and Kelan Swales.
It was a little closer for Wombwell who fell behind to
Appleby Frodingham through Adbdulrahman Alghamdi but quickfire strikes from Niall Smith and Owen Fieldsend meant they led at the break.
Jordan Kershaw's penalty doubled their lead early in the second period before Alghamdi's second brought the visitors back into touching distance.
There was no further addition to the score, Wombwell's 3-2 victory leaving them still in with a shout of the title whilst, sadly for App-Frod, the defeat confirms that they will finish in the relegation zone and are most likely to end the season next-to-bottom.
Dearne & District have secured themselves a play-off spot with their 4-0 win at
Selby Town, Justin Circuit opening the scoring before Jamie Austin's brace and a Taylor Nicholson goal saw them sprint away from their hosts in the last eighteen minutes.
Ilkley can only be overtaken for the final play-off space by
Worsbrough Bridge Athletic as a 2-1 win for them at basement side
Yorkshire Amateur thanks to goals from Christopher Simpkins lifts them to sixth above
Brigg Town whose promotion hopes were ended with a 2-0 loss at
South Leeds.
Jamal Stewart and James Law struck to give South Leeds the win that moves them up into eighth spot but they, like their opponents, can no longer finish in the top five.
There was a big game in the fight to avoid finishing in the relegation zone alongside the Ammers and App-Frod as the two sides still in trouble met at
Nostell Miners Welfare.
And, it was the hosts who prevailed to climb out of the bottom three, dumping
Dronfield Town below the dotted line with a 2-0 victory, Thomas Booth's eleventh minute opener added to late on by Gracjan Klimczak on a nervy afternoon.
The remaining four games involved sides who were playing for positional pride with Nathan Taylor's 82 minute strike securing a 2-1 win for
Swallownest at
Athersley Recreation.
Adam Baskerville struck in injury time to rubberstamp a home win for
Club Thorne Colliery as they beat
Shelley 3-1 whilst late goals for Niall Johnson and Harvey Lidgard grabbed a 3-1 victory for
Louth Town over visitors
Harrogate Railway Athletic.
And, Alexander Clarke and Liam Flanagan were the scorers for
Glasshoughton Welfare as they won 2-0 at
Maltby Main.
