Golcar United confirmed a place in the NCEL Premier Division play-offs with a 3-0 home win over Frickley Athletic in midweek. The Skye Direct Stadium side had seen their title challenge come to an end at the weekend but they ensured another chance for promotion to Step 4 in the National League System as a first half double from George Doyle and a 65th minute strike from Alfie Wilkinson secured them the points they needed.
Albion Sports were 3-1 home victors against
Bottesford Town to maintain their push for a play-off spot despite the disappointment of a points deduction that was announced this week.
The Lions went behind to a Jonathan Nyantou opener for the visitors but had turned it around by the interval with a couple from Nathan Cartman, his second goal coming courtesy of a penalty.
Junayd Cassius-Gill added their third midway through the second half to leave Sports one point away from the top five with two games left to play.
Division One leaders Horbury Town took a major step towards lifting the trophy without kicking a ball in midweek as their two closest rivals dropped points.
Wakefield AFC were beaten 2-0 at
Dearne & District, Bayley Lowe and Jamie Austin with the early strikes for the hosts that virtually assures them a play-off berth.
Wakefield, meanwhile, remain seven points behind Horbury in second with one game in hand, keeping ahead of
Wombwell Town, who drew 1-1 at
South Leeds, on goal difference.
Jamal Stewart broke the deadlock for the hosts on the quarter-of-an-hour mark before Jordan Kershaw made sure it was honours even halfway through the second period.
And, in a mid-table clash,
Club Thorne Colliery were 4-1 winners at
Harrogate Railway Athletic, Jordan Buckham's opener for the visitors cancelled out by Desmond Okoro.
That is how it stayed until the last ten minutes when Adam Baskerville's penalty restored the away side's advantage and they pulled further away with two further goals in stoppage time, a second for Buckham added to by one for Joshua Yeaman.
