NCEL Match Review 2024/25 #38

8th December, 2024

Hallam are through to the Fourth Round of the Isuzu FA Vase for the second season running after a 4-0 victory at NCEL rivals Wombwell Town on Saturday.

The Premier Division visitors took the lead midway through the first half at their Division One hosts through Brodie Lichfield before three further goals after the interval ended Wombwell's hopes of causing an upset.

Brandon Bradbury struck the second on the hour mark and that was quickly followed by a third from Rio Allan and Litchfield doubled his tally with ten minutes remaining to send the Countrymen through.

It was one of only nine games involving NCEL sides that went ahead as Storm Darragh disrupted football fixtures across the country with heavy winds and torrential rain leading to a raft of postponements.

Two other Vase ties, Albion Sports' trip to South Liverpool and Silsden AFC's match at West Didsbury & Chorlton, were called off, whilst the NCEL saw seven games fall foul of the weather and a further two were abandoned.

In the three Premier Division games that took place, Thackley climb to third following their 3-0 home victory over Bottesford Town.

Tawheed Ahmed's opener on fourteen minutes was added to by a quickfire double from Antony Brown and Ben Grech-Brooksbank with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining to secure the points for the Dennyboys.

Knaresborough Town have opened up a five-point gap between themselves and the bottom two after a much-needed win at home against eighth-placed Parkgate.

Benjamin Parkes gave the hosts a third minute lead that was cancelled out by Luis Afonso Ferreira but Adam Priestley restored Knaresborough's advantage early in the second period.

Theodore Hudson then grabbed their third as the game veered towards stoppage time to lift them further away from the relegation zone.

Frickley Athletic climb to thirteenth as they raced into a three goal lead by the half-hour mark at home to Rossington Main.

Marcel Chipamunga, Robert Guilfoyle and Alhassane Keita gave them a stranglehold on the encounter with Jamie Thompson also finding the net in the second half in a 4-0 victory.

Horbury Town came from behind with a brace in the last ten minutes from Jamie Cusworth to win 2-1 at home to Selby Town to extend their lead at the top of Division One.

Harry Clapham had broken the deadlock for the Robins midway through the second period but the hosts rallied to move fourteen points clear at the summit.

Kyle Bingham struck twice and there was one each for James Law, William Law and Owen Murphy as South Leeds won 5-0 at Glasshoughton Welfare to jump into fourth.

Ilkley Town are up to sixth, a point off the play-off zone, after an Eliel Maville-Anku penalty and an Alfie Dean brace helped them to a 3-3 home draw with Nostell Miners Welfare.

Gracjan Klimczak and Cyrus Rowe had given the visitors a 2-0 lead by the tenth minute but they found themselves behind by the hour mark and needed Kenneth Tafireyi's equaliser to share the spoils.

Swallownest's 5-0 win at Dronfield Town has moved them out of the relegation zone, Alex Wonham's opener added to by two each for James Hardeman and Billy Stafford.

The victory sees them up into seventeenth, moving above their hosts, whilst Louth Town replace them in the bottom three.

And, basement side Appleby Frodingham picked up a point in a 2-2 home draw with Athersley Recreation.

Jack Tierney and Eugene Ugenio twice put them ahead but they were pegged back by Luke Micklethwaite and then Harrison Landon.

Meanwhile, Brigg Town's home clash against Worsbrough Bridge Athletic was abandoned at half-time due to an unplayable pitch.

And, Wakefield AFC's match at Dearne & District lasted 69 minutes before floodlight failure brought it to a premature end.
