Albion Sports and Wombwell Town booked their places in the Second Round of this season's Isuzu FA Vase with victories on a busy weekend of football involving NCEL sides.Nathan Cartman struck a hat-trick for Sports, equalising on each occasion, as his side refused to capitulate to their visitors Boro Rangers in a pulsating tie that ended 3-3.
And, having converted two penalties during the ninety minutes, there was no suprise that the hosts prevailed in the shoot-out, winning 5-3 on spot kicks to progress.
Meanwhile, Wombwell also took part in a thriller as the Division One side beat Premier Division visitors
Handsworth 3-2 in an all-NCEL encounter.
Owen Sykes and Jordan Kershaw put the home side 2-0 up in the opening half-hour before the Ambers rallied and drew level through Scott Ruthven and Oliver Fearon by the 60th minute.
But, Wombwell were awarded a penalty late on that was struck home by Nicholas Guest to secure passage into Monday's draw.
Elsewhere, however, there was disappointment as, despite a McCauley Snelgrove goal,
Beverley Town were knocked out with a 3-1 loss at home to Abbey Hey.
Harrogate Railway Athletic went down 3-0 at Darwen whilst there were 2-0 defeats for
Campion at Northallerton Town and for
Yorkshire Amateur against visitors New Mills.
Meanwhile, Sunday's tie between
Wakefield AFC and former NCEL side North Shields was postponed an hour before kick-off due to a waterlogged pitch.
In the Premier Division,
Penistone Church,
Golcar United and
Silsden AFC all took advantage of Albion Sports' FA Vase tie to dislodge the Lions from the summit and send them down to fourth spot.
Church are the new leaders after their 3-0 win at
Rossington Main, Lennon O'Grady's first half opener added to by a brace from Samuel Scrivens in the second period.
Callum Petch and Rico Kilbourn netted for Golcar who are second after their 2-0 home win over basement side
Goole AFC whilst Silden are third having beaten sixth-placed visitors
Hallam by a single goal, Jake Cassidy with the 63rd minute decider.
Thackley have consolidated fifth spot thanks to a 4-2 win at
Tadcaster Albion, the Dennyboys racing into a 3-0 lead through Finn Donovan and an Antony Brown brace by the half-hour.
Albert Ibrahimi gave the Brewers a glimmer of hope with his 37th minute strike but Ben Grech-Brooksbank restored the three goal advantage in the final quarter-of-an-hour before Benjamin Tweed grabbed a second for the hosts in stoppage time.
Parkgate lost a little ground on the top five as they went down 2-0 at
Bottesford Town, Charlie Dunkerley and Aristides Cunha with the goals, one in each half, for the Poachers, that lifts them to six points clear of the bottom two.
Ali Spencer Aydemir and Charlie Clements pounced in the final ten minutes to secure
Barton Town a 4-2 home win over
Pickering Town having twice previously seen their lead cancelled out by the Pikes.
Frickley Athletic were 3-1 victors against visitors
Knaresborough Town, Marcel Chipamunga ensuring the points in the 89th minute after a Jack Cawthorn opener and a Jack Varley penalty had set them on their way.
And, it was a goalless draw at the Servo Group Stadium between hosts
Eccleshill United and
Winterton Rangers, a result that leaves the sides ninth and nineteenth in the table, respectively.
Horbury Town continue to dominate in Division One, a 3-0 home win over
Glasshoughton Welfare stretching their unbeaten run to eleven games and maintaining a six point gap at the top of the table.
Jack Leach broke the deadlock and Billy Mole struck twice in the opening thirty minutes to claim the victory whilst
Dearne & District move up into second after coming from behind to win 2-1 at
Louth Town.
Alfie Usher gave the White Wolves an eleventh minute lead before Jamie Austin scored twice, towards the end of the first half and then at the start of the second period, to take the points for the visitors.
Maltby Main stay fourth but are now fifteen points away from the summit after their loss in Friday night's game, a 1-0 home defeat to
Club Thorne Colliery who took the victory courtesy of Adam Baskerville's 34th minute strike.
Fifth-placed
Athersley Recreation tasted defeat but remain in the play-off zone despite their 3-1 loss at
Selby Town.
Alfie Bakes gave them an injury-time consolation after Harry Clapham, Daniel Davison and Samuel Calvert had delivered the victory for the ninth-placed Robins.
Hat-tricks for Daniel North and Scott Hutchinson helped
Brigg Town to a 7-0 win at
Nostell Miners Welfare that lifts them up to sixth above
Ilkley Town who were beaten 4-0 at home by
Dronfield Town.
Max Rhodes and Connor Chapell gave the away side the perfect start in the opening ten minutes and Samuel Bebbington then made sure of the win with his brace.
James Law struck twice for
South Leeds whilst there was a goal each for Scott Jones, Ryan McKendry and Scott Burns in their 5-1 home victory over
Appleby Frodingham.
Ryan Ellison and Alfie Charlotte found the net for
Armthorpe Welfare as they won 2-0 at
Shelley to move themselves five points clear of the bottom three.
And, one Division One game fell foul to the bad weather as a waterlogged pitch put paid to
Worsbrough Bridge Athletic's home match with
Swallownest.
