8th August, 2024

Two more NCEL sides booked their places for the next stage of this season's Emirates FA Cup with victories in Extra Preliminary Round replays in midweek.

Eccleshill United were 3-2 victors over Pitching In Northern Premier League visitors Vauxhall Motors, an injury-time own goal securing a fantastic win for the Eagles after Harvey Booth had broken the deadlock for the hosts and Joshua McKiernon had levelled with their second on 76 minutes.

And, Golcar United also progressed thanks to a 1-0 home win over Padiham, George Doyle with the only goal of the game midway through the first half against their North West Counties League opponents.

But, Handsworth were unable to make it three out of three successes for our sides as they bowed out of the competition with a 2-0 loss at South Liverpool.

Elsewhere, the JCP Construction League Cup got underway with three clubs making their way into the Second Round.

Brigg Town were the biggest winners as they thrashed hosts Athersley Recreation 8-0, Joshua Batty netting five of their goals with Ben Vazquez, Jack Boswell and Brett Agnew adding to the scoreline in a game that saw the Zebras 6-0 up by the interval.

Toby Marriott's double, following a Daniel Smith strike, saw Ilkley Town go through with a 3-1 home victory against Swallownest after the away side had taken a sixth minute lead through Thomas Atkinson.

And, Worsbrough Bridge Athletic prevailed 4-3 in a penalty shoot-out after their 1-1 draw at Appleby Frodingham, the hosts going in front in first half stoppage time from Nathan Watson before Kane Swinburn restored parity early in the second period.

In the Premier Division, Parkgate and Tadcaster Albion made it two wins out of two to start their league campaigns with victories at home.

Harley Holt put Parkgate ahead against Knaresborough Town but were pegged back by Adam Priestley before Taylor Nicholson restored their advantage and a double from Jamie Austin ensured a 4-1 win for the Steelmen.

And, there were also two goals for Elliott Andrew as Tadcaster beat Silsden AFC 3-1, Luca Bolino breaking the deadlock for the Brewers whilst Kayle Price grabbed a late consolation for the visitors.

There were also wins on their own patch for Hallam and Penistone Church with Hallam enjoying a 4-0 defeat of Winterton Rangers, Rio Allen netting twice for the Countrymen with Brandon Bradbury and Christopher Salt adding to their tally.

Samuel Scrivens, meanwhile, was the matchwinner for Penistone as he scored the only goal of the game in the 69th minute of their encounter with Goole AFC.

The spoils were shared in the remaining two matches with Thackley taking a 2-0 lead at Bottesford Town, courtesy of Josimar Bradshaw's opener and Graeme Anderson's own goal before the hosts made it 2-2 with Aristides Cunha and Jonathan Nyantou rescuing a point for the Poachers.

And, Callum Brook's 64th minute equaliser saw Frickley Athletic take a point from Rossington Main in a 1-1 draw after Mitchell Langton had given the home side the lead late in the opening period.
