The focus of the NCEL Premier Division at the weekend was fully on the opening stage of the Emirates FA Cup with all twenty teams taking part in the Extra Preliminary Round.Albion Sports kicked things off on Friday night but, despite an 87th minute penalty from Sumaili Cisse giving them late hope, they bowed out with a narrow 2-1 home loss to Northern Premier League side Trafford.
Saturday saw eight of our sides progress with
Silsden AFC and
Winterton Rangers causing upsets at higher-ranked opposition.
Kayle Price broke the deadlock for Silsden just before half-time at Liversedge with Casey Stewart making sure of a giantkilling 2-0 victory in the 77th minute.
And, Winterton went one better as they defeated hosts Shepshed Dynamo 3-0, a Daniel Walker brace sandwiching an Ollie Jarvis strike with all of the goals coming in the second period.
There were two all-NCEL ties with Aidan Kirby's late winner seeing
Campion through by a single goal over league rivals and visitors
Parkgate.
Meanwhile,
Thackley triumphed 2-0 at home to
Frickley Athletic, a Ben Grech-Brooksbank penalty giving them a first-half injury time lead before Jake Holcombe doubled their advantage with ten minutes remaining.
Elsewhere,
Barton Town went through with a 5-2 home win over Newark Town, Ryan Thompson, Elliot Broughton, Scott Phillips, Andrew Norfolk and Reece Moody netting for the Swans.
Jonathan Nyantou's 57th minute strike proved to be the winner for
Bottesford Town who won 3-2 at Hucknall Town, Aristides Cunha and Sam Swinn also scored to give them a 2-1 advantage at the interval.
Lucas Robinson's late second secured
Goole AFC a dramatic 3-2 victory at Lincoln United after Liam Flanagan had broken the deadlock in the eighth minute for the Vikings.
And,
Tadcaster Albion overcame the dismissal of keeper Sam Green in the 23rd minute to prevail 3-0 at home to Seaham Red Star.
James Knowles' opener and an Elliott Andrew penalty gave the Brewers a comfortable lead by the break before Alfie Dean added to their tally in second-half injury time.
Three ties ended in stalemate with midweek replays now taking place for
Eccleshill United,
Golcar United and
Handsworth.
Matthias Britton was on the scoreline for Eccleshill in a 1-1 draw at Vauxhall Motors whilst Adam Field's equaliser saw Golcar come away from Padiham with the same scoreline.
And, Scott Ruthven scored both of Handsworth's goals as they were held 2-2 by visitors South Liverpool, the Ambers denied victory with an injury time penalty for the away side.
Penistone Church were one of four sides who were beaten on Saturday, Nathan Keightley with their goal in a 2-1 home loss to Charnock Richard.
Meanwhile,
Knaresborough Town,
Pickering Town and
Rossington Main went down 3-0 at Newcastle Benfield, at Penrith and at home to AFC Mansfield, respectively.
Sunday saw two further FA Cup ties with
Hallam coming from behind to win 2-1 at home to Lower Breck, Ross Goodwin and Christopher Salt with their goals after the deadlock had been broken from the penalty spot.
And, ten man
Beverley Town almost produced a remarkable comeback after the 12th minute disappointment of having Kian Larkin sent off for handling on the line and visitors Whitley Bay racing into a 3-0 lead early in the second half.
Cameron Connelly and Luka Suluburic struck to reduce the deficit to one goal but they agonisingly could not find an equaliser so were eventually beaten 3-2.
The third round of Division One games took place on Saturday with
Horbury Town and
Wombwell Town both maintaining their perfect starts to the season.
James Cusworth's opener for Horbury was cancelled out by a late first-half spot kick from Edward Dry for hosts
Selby Town but Aaron Fell and Luke Playford secured a 3-1 victory after the interval.
Wombwell came from behind to beat visitors
Club Thorne Colliery 2-1, Harry Brown with the early strike for the away side before Jordan Kershaw's leveller and then Owen Sykes' 49th minute winner.
Athersley Recreation and
Dearne & District have both amassed seven points from their three games with Nathan Perks, Alfie Bakes and James Woodhouse scoring for the Rec in a 3-0 home win over
Appleby Frodingham.
Oliver Yates struck an 80th minute winner for Dearne as they beat hosts
Wakefield AFC 2-1 after their opener from Bayley Lowe was cancelled out by Scott Smith.
Armthorpe Welfare cantered to a 6-0 victory at
Yorkshire Amateur to make it two wins out of their opening three games, Ryan Ellison with a brace whilst there was one each for Bradley Sparrow, Mahamadou Ceesay, Harry Charlotte and Alfie Charlotte.
Ilkley Town are also on six points after Toby Marriott and Luke Baldwin ensured a 2-0 win at
Nostell Miners Welfare.
South Leeds picked up their first point of the campaign as they drew 1-1 at home with
Glasshoughton Welfare, Joseph O'Neil putting them in front in the 18th minute before they were pegged back by Alexander Clarke with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining.
Wade Ripley struck twice as
Maltby Main won 5-1 at
Louth Town, Callum Walton, Mackenzie Warne and Jack Bancroft also on the scoresheet whilst Alex Carter found the net for the White Wolves.
Shelley defeated visitors
Harrogate Railway Athletic 2-1 thanks to goals from Klein Gwenero and Akram Lasalire.
And, Farbod Yousfi's 87th minute winner grabbed a 1-0 victory for
Swallownest in a tight game at home to
Dronfield Town.
