Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2017/18 #36

6th December, 2017

A Gareth Curtis hat-trick helped Clipstone pick up their third win of the season in a nine-goal thriller in their Notts Senior Cup Third Round tie in midweek.

The Cobras were three goals up at home to Gedling Miners Welfare with Curtis' brace added to by a Oliver Ashton strike before the visitors pulled the game back to 3-2 by the hour mark.

Timothy Gregory added a fourth for Clipstone but Gedling reduced the deficit to a single goal once more, Curtis then completed his hat-trick on 87 but the away side continued to battle and netted in stoppage time to cause a few nerves but the match ended 5-4 in favour of the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division's basement side.

It was one of ten County Cup games played in midweek with AFC Mansfield knocked out of the Notts Senior Cup on penalties at former NCEL team Teversal after it finished 2-2 following extra-time, Nicholas Guest and Oliver Fearon with the Bulls' goals.

And, a further half-hour was also needed in Retford United's home clash in the same competition with league rivals Ollerton Town, the only goal of the game coming in the 113th minute from Sam Bartram to ensure the hosts' progress.

In the First Round of the North Riding Senior Cup, Pickering Town came from behind to win 3-1 at home to Redcar Town, Joe Danby, Daniel Gray and Cameron Mulhearn all scoring in the final thirty minutes.

The Third Round of the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup saw mixed fortunes for our sides as Athersley Recreaiton went down 5-1 at Frickley Athletic whilst Hallam were beaten 3-2 at home by North Gawber Colliery after extra time.

Curtis Roberts scored for AFC Emley as they won 1-0 at Shelley, Maltby Main went goal crazy as they beat visitors Grimethorpe Sports 8-0, Ross Duggan with a brace, and extra-time goals from Nathan Keightley and Andrew Ring saw Penistone Church progress 4-2 at home to Frecheville CA after extra time.

Selby Town enjoyed an excellent 4-2 victory over higher-ranked FC Halifax Town in the Quarter-Finals of the West Riding County Cup with Liam Flanagan netting a hat-trick for the Robins.

The final League Cup First Round tie ended in a comfortable 6-0 home win for Campion over fellow Division One side Worsbrough Bridge Athletic, Joel Hughes with a first half double that set them on their way before Jason Carney, Leon Hurles-Brook, Matthias Britton and Lee Bradshaw added to the scoreline after the interval.

The midweek's only league game saw a point apiece in a 1-1 draw between Swallownest and Armthorpe Welfare, Alex Lill's opener for the hosts cancelled out by Luke Williams to keep the sides seventeenth and thirteenth, respectively.

And, the Premier Division trip for Liversedge at Staveley Miners Welfare was postponed due to an unfit pitch.
