Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2017/18 #32

23rd November, 2017

Grimsby Borough are through to the Semi-Finals of the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy after the Toolstation NCEL Division One side beat Premier Division opposition in midweek.

Josh Morrall got the only goal of the game in the 59th minute as the Wilderness Boys progressed at the expense of their visitors Bottesford Town and will now face last season's Premier Division champions Cleethorpes Town for a place in the Final.

The first three League Cup Second Round ties took place with home wins for Glasshoughton Welfare, Hemsworth Miners Welfare and one on their travels for Knaresborough Town.

Three goals in the last ten minutes - two from Andrew Horbury and one from Ryan Ferguson - helped Glasshoughton to a 4-0 victory over fellow Division One side Nostell Miners Welfare after Conor Glavin had given the hosts a half-time lead.

Hemsworth wrapped up their match in the opening period as a Daniel Critchlow opener, a Nash Connolly brace and a Bradley Dockerty strike had them 4-0 up by the interval.

Hallam produced a late mini revival with James Reed and Will Saxon scoring in the last ten minutes but the Premier Division hosts went through at the expense of their Division One visitors, 4-2.

And, Knaresborough were 4-0 victors in another all-Division One tie at Winterton Rangers, Daniel Thirkell and Willliam Lenehan netting in the first half before Stephen Bromley and Benjamin Cohen fully wrapped up the victory in the second period.

AFC Mansfield stay fourth in the Premier Division but are now only four points from the summit after a 3-1 home victory over Garforth Town, Matthew Plummer's eleventh minute breakthrough for the hosts cancelled out after the break by Mark Simpson.

But, the Bulls scored twice in quick succession through Nicholas Guest and Oliver Fearon to take control of the match once again.

Liversedge climbed up five places to tenth in a congested mid-table after their 3-0 victory at Albion Sports, Andrew Wood and Joseph Hitch doing most of the damage before a late Rhys Davies penalty confirmed the win.

And, in Division One, Alex Slack and Lewis Dickinson scored for AFC Emley as they came from behind to win 2-1 at home to Ollerton Town, Gavin King giving the visitors a first-half lead.

The Pewits are up to ninth whilst Ollerton stay fifteenth.

Three games - Pickering Town's home clash with Redcar Town in the North Riding Senior Cup along with Pontefract Collieries' trip to Hall Road Rangers and Thackley at home to Worksop Town in the Premier Division - fell victim to heavy overnight rain.
