Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2017/18 #22

19th October, 2017

Pontefract Collieries' excellent start to the season continued as they won at Evo-Stik League side Ossett Albion in the First Round of the West Riding County Cup in midweek.

The Toolstation NCEL Premier Division leaders raced into a 2-0 lead with Mark Whitehouse and Christopher Jackson netting for the Colls in the opening twelve minutes at their higher-ranked hosts, a scoreline that then stayed the same until the final whistle.

There were three League Cup First Round ties with wins for Swallownest, Yorkshire Amateur and Knaresborough Town against fellow Division One sides.

Nicholas Senior opened the scoring for Swallownest at Armthorpe Welfare on 26 minutes before a penalty early in the second period from Jack Watts sealed a 2-0 victory.

There were two goals each for Daniel Maw, Ashley Flynn and T'nique Fishley as the Ammers won 6-1 at home to Brigg Town, Ryan Thompson with the visitors' strike to make it 2-1 by the interval.

And, Tom Hesketh's spot kick after Will Lenehan had handled the ball for hosts FC Bolsover on 18 minutes saw Knaresborough through with a 1-0 scoreline.

In the Premier Division, Maltby Main are up to third, replacing Handsworth Parramore who they beat 1-0 at the King of Soho Stadium, Jed McGowan with the vital goal ten minutes from time.

Worksop Town were temporarily in fifth after they recovered from conceding two early Gareth Barlow strikes at Barton Town, Alec Denton pulling one back almost immediately before two own goals in the last six minutes from Mitch Langton and Barlow gave the Tigers a 3-2 win.

But, the team they leapfrogged AFC Mansfield regained their position with a 4-0 win at next-to-bottom Harrogate Railway Athletic on Wednesday, Matthew Wilson, Lynton Karkach, Oliver Fearon and Craig Mitchell netting to maintain the Bulls' unbeaten start to the league season.

Omar Habeeb, Chris Fairhust and Daniel Facey all struck in the opening period as Albion Sports beat visitors Thackley 3-0 and the Lions go up to eleventh whilst their opponents drop to fourteenth.

Liversedge climb to fifteenth following their 3-2 home win over Parkgate, Andrew Wood with a hat-trick and the visitors' goals coming in the last quarter-of-an-hour from Jassim Alali and Kieran Hirst.

And, Bottesford Town put a little more daylight between themselves and the relegation zone as Declan Bacon struck twice to help claim at 3-2 victory at home to Penistone Church and they are now seven points clear of the bottom three.

In Division One, Joseph Dale and Casey Stewart scored in the opening minutes of the second half as Selby Town won 2-1 at home to AFC Emley who had taken a first period lead through Matty Waller, the Robins go up to sixth as a result of their victory.

Tom Cooke and Kieran Watson struck within a minute of each other halfway through the second half for Shirebrook Town as they beat hosts Dronfield Town by the same margin and move up to eighth, Daniel Wood had given the home side a 25th minute lead.

And, a double from Mitchell Dunne - one from the penalty spot - helped Hallam to a 3-0 home win over Ollerton Town, Gareth Griffiths with their third whilst their visitors saw a spot-kick saved when they were two goals down.

Hallam climb to twelfth whilst Ollerton stay in fifteenth position.
