18th March, 2016
Handsworth Parramore took advantage of a shock defeat for Tadcaster Albion to replace them at the top of the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division as there was another twist in the title race in midweek.
Tadcaster were beaten 2-1 at home by Clipstone, two goals from Nick Walker earning the Cobras a deserved victory whilst Nick Black netted for the hosts, giving Parramore a chance to climb to the summit which they took on Wednesday.
Hat-tricks from Alex Rippon and Jon Froggatt claimed them a 6-2 victory at Staveley Miners Welfare and they are two points clear but have played one game more than the Brewers.
Worksop Town kept their outside hopes of their promotion push going with a 2-1 win at Thackley having gone behind towards the end of the first half through an Andrew Wood strike, an Andrew Ofosu equaliser and a Craig Bentham own goal earning them the points in the second period.
The Tigers move up to fourth, eight points behind Parramore.
In the battle to avoid relegation, bottom side Liversedge continued their resurgence, stretching their unbeaten run to three games with a 2-0 home win over Athersley Recreation, Benny Igiehon and Vaughan Redford scoring to move them to within six points of safety with five games in hand of the side just outside the drop zone, Pontefract Collieries.
Brigg Town moved a point further away from trouble with a goalless draw at Maltby Main and there was also relief for Parkgate who are now seventeenth after a 3-2 win at Rainworth Miners Welfare, Ben Thornton with two vital second half goals for the Rotherham-based side.
And, Gareth Owen struck twice in quick succession at the end of the first period to claim a 2-0 win for Barton Town Old Boys at Garforth Town in their mid-table clash.
Hemsworth Miners Welfare stretched their lead at the top of Division One to fourteen points with a 4-0 win at next-to-bottom Worsbrough Bridge Athletic, Samuel Jones and Dominic Blair putting them in control in the opening period before Nicholas Guest and Nash Connolly added to their tally after the interval.
Worsbrough were in action twice in midweek with a 6-0 defeat at Hall Road Rangers on Thursday, two days after the Hemsworth clash, Jordan Harrison with a brace whilst Callum Harrison, Tom Bennett, Ben Kinsley and Martin Jones also got on the scoresheet to give Rangers a massive boost in their bid to beat the drop.
The two losses for Worsbrough, meanwhile, keep them seven points away from safety with nine games left to play.
Hull United are up to fifth after a 4-1 victory over Yorkshire Amateur, Jamie Richardson with two of their goals, whilst there was also a double for Lee Smith in Eccleshill United's 4-2 win at Dronfield Town and Knaresborough Town beat hosts Westella VIP, 3-0, with goals from Jonty Maullin, Paul Atkinson and Fraser Lancaster strengthening their grip on a top nine finish.
And, Teversal and Selby Town stay eleventh and twelfth, respectively, after their 1-1 draw at Carnarvon Street.
Meanwhile, Hallam are through to the semi-finals of the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup after their 2-1 victory over Houghton Main, played at Penistone Church, Micah Bishop and Harry Bamforth scoring for the Division One side who had conceded in the opening three minutes.
