Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2015/16 #60
13th March, 2016
There is a little daylight now between the top two and the chasing pack in the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division title chase after Saturday's action.
Leaders Tadcaster Albion and second-placed Handsworth Parramore both picked up vital victories but the three sides below them - Bridlington Town, Cleethorpes Town and Worksop Town - all dropped points.
Tadcaster keep a one point lead over Parramore thanks to a 5-0 home victory over Retford United, Jimmy Beadle with a fifteen minute first half hat-trick before Josh Greening and Josh Barrett also got on the scoresheet towards the end of the game.
Handsworth remain within touching distance of the Brewers after Kieran Wells netted in their 1-0 win at Albion Sports and they are now three points clear of Bridlington who were held 1-1 at home by basement side Liversedge, Chris Adams with their equaliser after an early opener from Antony Hilton for the visitors.
Cleethorpes are six points off the top in fourth after they went down 2-1 at Parkgate, Adam Johnson with the breakthrough for the home side on seven minutes with Brody Robertson claiming a quickfire equaliser but Michael Cuckson got the winner near the start of the second period.
And, Worksop went down 2-1 at home to Rainworth Miners Welfare, Matthew Plant's opener and a Matthew Sykes penalty putting the Wrens in control whilst the division's top scorer Kyle Jordan got a late consolation for the Tigers who are now nine points adrift of Tadcaster.
Pickering Town were the only other side in the top half to win as a Mitchell Hamilton brace helped them to a 3-2 win at Armthorpe Welfare, a defeat for the home side that drops them into the relegation places.
At the foot of the table, Liversedge's draw means they are now nine points away from safety but with plenty of games in hand whilst Nostell Miners Welfare are next-to-bottom and three points off the dotted line after their 1-1 draw at one of the sides just outside the drop zone, Pontefract Collieries.
Armthorpe's fall into the bottom three came courtesy of the win for Parkgate and also a 3-0 triumph for Brigg Town at Athersley Recreation, Paul Grimes, Scott Mathews and Jarra Amadou with the goals.
And, in mid-table clashes, Thackley were 2-1 winners at Clipstone whilst the points were shared in a 2-2 draw between Garforth Town and Maltby Main.
In Division One, Hemsworth Miners Welfare still have a hefty eleven point lead despite a 2-2 home draw with play-off chasing Hallam, Shane Kelsey seemingly giving them a victory on 80 minutes before Micah Bishop got his second of the afternoon to restore parity towards stoppage time.
Second-placed AFC Mansfield also drew 2-2 with Cieran Gibson's own goal with eleven minutes remaining claiming them a point at Selby Town, allowing Bottesford Town to narrow the gap in third to three points with their 5-1 home victory over Glasshoughton Welfare, Wayne Graves with two of their goals.
AFC Emley are also eyeing the automatic promotion places in fourth after Kieran Ryan's hat-trick helped them to a 4-0 win at home to Dronfield Town but Shirebrook Town lost ground in fifth as a Gary Bradshaw double saw them go down 2-0 to Hull United at Langwith Road, a win that strengthens the Citizens' play-off ambitions in sixth.
Penistone Church, along with Hallam, are hovering just outside the top six after their 2-2 draw at Teversal, Alvyn Riley rescuing them a point with an equaliser on 65 minutes.
Basement side Lincoln Moorlands Railway's match at Westella VIP was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch but they are not yet certain to finish in a relegation place as the team just outside the bottom two, Rossington Main, were beaten 6-3 at Yorkshire Amateur, Joel Hughes with four of the home side's goals.
The other team in division's drop zone, Worsbrough Bridge Athletic, were also beaten, 3-1 at Grimsby Borough, to remain seven points from safety but with five games in hand of Rossington.
And, two goals from Luke Harrop helped Eccleshill United to a 3-1 home win over Knaresborough Town to move the Eagles up to thirteenth.
