Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2015/16 #52
14th February, 2016
There was not much movement in either the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division and Division One table on Saturday despite an almost full programme, a rare occasion so far in 2016.
All scheduled games went ahead with Worksop Town just holding on to top spot in the Premier Division thanks to a late equaliser from Matthew Booth at Brigg Town after the Tigers had twice gone behind, Paul Grimes getting both of the home side's goals whilst Andrew Ofosu restored parity for the first time.
That 2-2 draw was enough to keep second placed Tadcaster Albion at bay after the Brewers beat visitors Liversedge, 4-1, Liam Ormsby putting them ahead in first half stoppage time before Tom Jackson levelled on the hour mark but Ormsby struck again and Carl Stewart and Jimmy Beadle made sure of the victory in the final five minutes.
The top two are level on 61 points, two points ahead of Bridlington Town who stay third after Andy Norfolk and Joel Sutton's goals earned them a 2-0 victory at Armthorpe Welfare.
There were also wins for Handsworth Parramore and Cleethorpes Town to keep them fourth and fifth, respectively, Jon Froggatt netting late on in Handsworth's 1-0 home defeat of Maltby Main whilst Brody Robertson did the same for Cleethorpes with the only goal of the game at Garforth Town.
Sixth placed Albion Sports were the only side in the top ten to lose as they went down 4-2 at neighbours Thackley after Asif Hussain was sent off for a foul on the last man just 29 seconds into the match and one of their former players Thomas Dugdale struck twice for the home side.
There was a hat-trick for Alec Denton as Clipstone won 4-0 at home to Nostell Miners Welfare and Daniel Fletcher's late winner earned Staveley Miners Welfare a 2-1 victory over Retford United at Inkersall Road.
In the only change in the Premier Division standings, Athersley Recreation climbed above Retford into fifteenth spot with a 1-1 draw at Pickering Town, Declan Welford with their equaliser in the 85th minute.
And, Barton Town Old Boys won 3-2 at Parkgate, Alex Sherwood with their vital third goal just before the hour mark.
In Division One, there were victories for the top two sides with Hemsworth Miners Welfare maintaining an eight point gap over AFC Mansfield with a 6-1 triumph over visitors Knaresborough Town.
A Bill Law opener and a Jason Yates spot kick had them two up by the interval before a Samuel Jones brace doubled their advantage, Gary Collier pulled one back on 72 and then Dominic Blair and Luke Danville completed the scoring in the last ten minutes.
AFC Mansfield won 2-1 at Dronfield Town but needed a Joe Butler own goal three minutes from time to secure a vital victory in their promotion chase as the two teams below them both dropped points.
Third placed Bottesford Town drew 2-2 at Selby Town, Danny Boulton seemingly giving them the victory on 81 minutes but Chris Jackson restored parity soon afterwards.
And, Shirebrook Town stay fourth despite a 3-1 defeat at Yorkshire Amateur, Joel Hughes, Carl Heard and Craig Heard with home side's goals before Liam Greenfield's late consolation.
Ashley Flynn scored a hat-trick to make it 61 for the season for him as AFC Emley won 4-0 at home to nine-man Teversal to strengthen their grip on fifth position.
Penistone Church stay seventh after a 2-2 draw at home to Hall Road Rangers, a point ahead of Hallam who won 4-1 at Westella VIP.
The only Division One movement saw Glasshoughton Welfare climb two places to fourteenth with a 4-2 win at bottom side Lincoln Moorlands Railway, James Popplewell with two of their goals.
They go above Westella VIP and Eccleshill United who drew 3-3 at Grimsby Borough, Lee Smith with an injury time equaliser after Jamie Coulson had claimed a double for the home side.
And, Worsbrough Bridge Athletic's return to Park Road began with a 1-1 home draw with Winterton Rangers, Jordan Lodge with their second half equaliser after James Watson had given the visitors a first interval lead.
Meanwhile, Hull United bowed out of the East Riding Senior Cup at the Quarter-Final stage, beaten 2-1 by North Ferriby United.
