Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2015/16 #51
11th February, 2016
Worksop Town returned to the top of the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division whilst Winterton Rangers booked their place in this season's Lincolnshire Senior Trophy Final in midweek.
Only a handful of games survived another bout of wet weather but there was plenty of drama, especially at the Windsor Foodservice Stadium where Worksop beat visitors Retford United by the odd goal in seven.
They took the lead through Conor Higginson on five minutes but Retford were 3-1 up by the interval thanks to a Mark Waters equaliser, an Adam Lee strike and an own goal from Julian Lawrence.
However, the Tigers turned the game on its head in the second period with Mitch Husbands and Andrew Ofosu restoring parity by the 68th minute and Steve Woolley grabbing what proved to be a late winner in a 4-3 victory.
Worksop are now two points ahead of previous leaders Tadcaster Albion but have played three games more than their nearest rivals.
Fifth-placed Cleethorpes Town kept their title bid going with a 3-0 win at Nostell Miners Welfare, Brody Robertson putting them ahead midway through the first half before Daniel Trott and Louis Grant confirmed the victory with goals in the last ten minutes.
At the other end of the table, Armthorpe Welfare moved out of the relegation zone on Tuesday night following their 3-0 home victory over Pontefract Collieries, Josh Schofield scoring a hat-trick on his debut following his move from Lincoln Moorlands Railway.
But, they were back in the bottom three twenty-four hours later as Parkgate leapfrogged over them with a 3-0 win of their own at Athersley Recreation, a Jack Briscoe own goal added to by second-half strikes from Alex Lill and John Lufudu.
In the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy, Division One side Winterton upset the form book as they beat Premier Division visitors Barton Town Old Boys, 1-0, in their Semi-Final, Robbie Start with the goal on 18 minutes, and they now face Blackstones in the Final.
And, Rainworth Miners Welfare and Staveley Miners Welfare took advantage of their League Cup ties being called off to play a friendly at Kirklington Road which Rainworth won 3-1, courtesy of goals from Liam Theakstone, Liam Morris and Declan Brewin whilst Kieran Watson netted for Staveley.
