Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2015/16 #48

31st January, 2016

The Toolstation NCEL's last representative in this year's FA Vase bowed out at the Fifth Round stage on Saturday.

Cleethorpes Town, who had reached the last sixteen in the competition for the first time, were beaten 2-1 at home by Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division side Kidlington with Brody Robertson scoring in the 48th minute after their visitors had struck twice in the opening period.

In the Premier Division, Tadcaster Albion won the league's match of the day by beating top-of-the-table visitors Worksop Town, 4-1, to move to within five points of the summit with four games in hand of the Tigers.

The Brewers took the lead in the eleventh minute through Adam Baker in the clash that was played at Selby Town's Fairfax Plant Hire Stadium ground as repair works continue at the i2i Stadium following the recent floods.

Tom Elliott brought Worksop back level but Tadcaster took full control of the game in the second period as Jimmy Beadle restored their lead and Josh Greening struck twice in the final twenty minutes to seal the victory.

Second-placed Bridlington Town are now just a point behind Worksop after a Joel Sutton penalty and an Andy Norfolk strike earned them a 2-0 home win over Staveley Miners Welfare whilst Handsworth Parramore are a further point behind in third spot as Alex Rippon's injury-time strike snatched them a 2-1 victory at the expense of visitors Pontefract Collieries.

Albion Sports lost a little ground in sixth place as, despite Sam Bradley giving them a 39th minute lead, they were beaten 3-1 at home by Maltby Main with Ryan Carroll's brace sandwiching a goal from Joshua Hemmingway for the Miners in the second half.

Pickering Town move up into seventh above Clipstone after defeating their Nottinghamshire visitors, 3-2, Nathan Kamara with a late winner for the Pikes after the Cobras had twice come from behind.

At the foot of the table, Parkgate climbed out of the relegation zone with a 2-2 home draw against bottom side Liversedge, two early goals from Jordan Turner cancelled out by Vaughan Redford and Tom Jackson for the away team after the interval.

Sedge are now four points behind the side just above them Armthorpe Welfare who won 1-0 at home to Brigg Town, Stuart Preston's 78th minute winner dragging the visitors back into the bottom three.

And, Ben Beckles struck in stoppage time to claim a 2-1 victory at home for Thackley against Nostell Miners Welfare.

Division One leaders Hemsworth Miners Welfare are now five points clear after a 5-2 home win over Selby Town, Danny Critchlow and Shane Kelsey giving them a two goal lead by the interval before Chris Jackson halved the advantage on 69 minutes.

Harry Viggars quickly made it 3-1, though, and it was game over when Critchlow added his second and Hemsworth's fourth with six minutes remaining but the scoring did not stop there as Luke Thompson netted for Selby and Jason Yates' penalty in injury time added a fifth for the hosts.

Second placed AFC Mansfield were beaten 4-1 at an ever-improving Winterton Rangers, Kingsley Wetherald with two of the goals for the home side who are now up to seventeenth.

Josh Nichols and Matthew Steeper netted for Bottesford Town who are eight points behind top spot after their 2-0 win at home to Hallam whilst Shirebrook Town's surge up the table continues after a 2-0 victory at Westella VIP, courtesy of goals from Jake Currie and Liam Greenfield, saw them climb into fourth.

There were four goals for Bradley Walker as Knaresborough Town, who are ninth, thrashed their hosts and the team just below them in the standings, Yorkshire Amateur, 6-0.

Basement side Lincoln Moorlands Railway's revival continues as they won 3-1 at home to Rossington Main, Josh Schofield with two of their goals, but they are ten points away from safety with ten games to play.

The day's only casualty to the weather was at Dronfield Town who have still not had a home game since the start of November after their match with Eccleshill United was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

And, Tom Darwood scored twice for Barton Town Old Boys in a 3-0 friendly victory at Pocklington Town.
