Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2015/16 #46
24th January, 2016
It was a record-breaking weekend in the Toolstation NCEL as AFC Emley's Ashley Flynn struck twice in their Division One game at Eccleshill United on Saturday to take his season's tally to 57, the best ever since the league came into existence in 1982.
Meanwhile, the lead changed hands in the Premier Division once again with Worksop Town back at the summit following their 3-0 home victory over Pontefract Collieries, Matthew Booth with a hat-trick for the Tigers who go above Bridlington Town and Handsworth Parramore who were without a game.
Cleethorpes Town closed the gap in fourth spot as Marc Cooper's 18th minute strike earned them a 1-0 win at home to Albion Sports and a hat-trick from Jimmy Beadle saw fifth-placed Tadcaster Albion beat hosts Brigg Town, 3-1.
Clipstone won 2-0 at Barton Town Old Boys, Alec Denton netting both of their goals to move them above their hosts and Staveley Miners Welfare, who drew 2-2 at Rainworth Miners Welfare, into sixth.
Staveley's point came courtesy of a brace from Kieran Watson with the Wrens twice coming back through Liam Theakstone and Declan Brewin.
A Joe Danby double helped Pickering Town to a 5-1 home win over Garforth Town and the Pikes climb into the top ten whilst, at the other end of the table, Armthorpe Welfare remain in the bottom two after a 2-1 loss at Maltby Main, Lewis Bemrose getting both of the home side's goals.
And, Joe Brown's late winner saw Thackley prevail 2-1 at Retford United and the Dennyfield outfit are now twelfth.
In Division One, second-placed AFC Mansfield were unable to take full advantage of leaders Hemsworth Miners Welfare's game at Hull United being called off as they needed a late Chris Timons equaliser to claim a 1-1 draw at home with Westella VIP after Brett Thomas had given the visitors a first half lead.
But, there were victories for third and fourth placed Bottesford Town and Emley as the chase for promotion continues to gather pace.
Bottesford were 6-1 winners against Worsbrough Bridge Athletic in a game that they were the away side but was played at their ground by agreement of both clubs, Martin Pembleton getting two of their goals.
And, Emley were 4-1 victors at Eccleshill with Ruben Jerome and Jordan Corduri also finding the net after Flynn took the league's goalscoring record from Heanor Town's Kieran Debrouwer in the 2013/14 season.
Shirebrook Town stay fifth after a 2-2 draw at near neighbours Teversal with the home side snatching a draw thanks to an injury time equaliser from Lewis Weaver.
Hallam and Penistone Church remain seventh and eighth, respectively, after they played out a goalless draw at Sandygate and Knaresbrough Town complete the top nine despite a 4-3 home loss to Winterton Rangers, Craig Palmer with two of the visitors' goals to move them out of the bottom three.
Tom Fairweather struck twice for Dronfield Town who won 4-2 at Selby Town, Danny Bunch with two for the losing Robins and Yorkshire Amateur enjoyed a 4-1 home victory over basement side Lincoln Moorlands Railway.
And, there were 3-0 wins for Glasshoughton Welfare and Rossington Main at home to Grimsby Borough and at Hall Road Rangers, respectively, with Jason Stokes scoring two goals for Main.
