Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2015/16 #42
10th January, 2016
Cleethorpes Town are through to the last 16 of the FA Vase for the first time in their history after coming from behind to win 2-1 at home to Midlands Football League side Alvechurch on Saturday.
The Owls were caught cold, going behind in the opening two minutes, but a double strike around the half-hour mark from Jonathan Oglesby and Daniel Trott ensured their place in Monday's Fifth Round draw.
Ten league games - five each in the Premier Division and Division One - went ahead to defy the continuing heavy rain experienced by the region.
Top flight leaders Tadcaster Albion were one of those without a game and they drop to third as both Worksop Town and Bridlington Town took full advantage to leapfrog over the Brewers with victories.
Ross Henshaw and Conor Higginson had Worksop two goals ahead by the 25th minute at home to Athersley Recreation before a Kyle Jordan brace, with one from the penalty spot, ensured the 4-0 win in the second period.
Bridlington, meanwhile, took the points with a 2-1 defeat of hosts Nostell Miners Welfare, Will Waudby's 82nd minute winner sealing the victory after Ryan Donoghue had cancelled out their first half opener from Andy Norfolk.
Handsworth Parramore survived a late scare to win 3-2 at Pickering Town after a Luke Fletcher brace in the opening period had seemingly put them in control as Matthew Turnbull struck with three minutes remaining for the hosts' second to bring the Pikes back into touching distance.
There were two goals each for Connor Smythe and Matthew Sykes as Rainworth Miners Welfare beat visitors Garforth Town, 4-2, but stay eighth in the table.
And, Brigg Town moved out of the relegation zone with a 1-0 home win over next-to-bottom Parkgate, Scott Mathews with the vital strike on 77 minutes.
In Division One, AFC Mansfield won 2-0 at home to fellow top four side Bottesford Town to go above Hemsworth Miners Welfare to the summit, Sam O'Malley breaking the deadlock on 64 minutes before Phil Buxton made sure of the points late on.
AFC Emley jump over Bottesford into fourth after their 5-0 victory over visitors Rossington Main with another two goals for the league's top scorer Ashley Flynn - now on 55 for the season - whilst Sam Jerome, Kieran Ryan and Dominic Noteman also got on the scoresheet.
On a day where no away side managed a goal in the division, there were also defeats on their travels for Hall Road Rangers, Teversal and Penistone Church.
A Bradley Walker hat-trick condemned Teversal to a 3-0 loss at Knaresborough Town whilst Shirebrook Town won by the same scoreline against Penistone, with Jake Currie, Liam Greenfield and Matt Outram netting for the Langwith Road side.
And, Hall Road went down 5-0 at Hallam whose goals came from Louis Brown, Simon Mirfin, Max Pemberton, Michael Blythen and Steve Brammer.
Meanwhile, one match managed to survive the wet weather in midweek with Albion Sports winning 3-1 at home to Retford United in the Premier Division, Marcus Edwards, Arran Basi and Omar Habib with their goals after Adam Lee had given the visitors a tenth minute lead.
