Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2015/16 #33
29th November, 2015
Selby Town broke the Toolstation NCEL biggest victory record whilst Handsworth Parramore showed their credentials for a Premier Division title challenge on a Saturday afternoon packed full of goals.
Parramore took on second-placed Worksop Town at the Windsor Foodservice Stadium and it was the landlords who triumphed over the tenants, 3-2, to move within four points of the top two in third with games in hand.
Kieran Wells and Simon Harrison struck in the opening thirteen minutes for Parramore, who were the "away side" on this occasion, before Andrew Ofosu brought the Tigers back into the encounter before the interval.
Mitch Husbands then levelled proceedings early in the second period but Harrison grabbed his second and his side's third to claim the victory soon after the hour mark.
Leaders Tadcaster Albion's home game with Clipstone was called off as the pitch continues its recovery following recent flooding and that was one of two Premier Division matches called off, the other being Cleethorpes Town's trip to Liversedge.
Barton Town Old Boys and Bridlington Town moved into the top five over Clipstone and Cleethorpes with wins, Barton coming from an early goal down to win 2-1 at home to Retford United, Alex Sherwood and Ashley Dexter with their goals, whilst Joel Sutton's 80th minute strike earned Bridlington a victory by the same scoreline over visitors Albion Sports.
Four goals from Liam Morris helped Rainworth Miners Welfare to a 6-0 home victory against Nostell Miners Welfare and the Wrens are up to eighth, staying ahead of Staveley Miners Welfare who won 6-4 at Pontefract Collieries.
There were two goals each for Courtney Hastings and Kieran Watson for Staveley who raced into a 5-1 half-time lead before the home side produced a mini-revival in the second period.
Jack Owen scored a hat-trick for Athersley Recreation who came away from Parkgate with a 4-1 victory whilst Brigg Town and Thackley shared eight goals at the Hawthorns, Craig Bentham with two for the visitors.
Armthorpe Welfare prevailed 3-1 at home to Garforth Town whilst there was a 3-3 draw between Pickering Town and Maltby Main.
The story of the day in Division One was at the Fairfax Plant Hire Stadium where Selby's 14-0 pummelling of basement side Lincoln Moorlands Railway was the biggest league win since the NCEL began in 1982.
Luke Anderson and Danny Norton scored four each, there was a brace for Danny Bunch whilst Jordan Cooper, Louis Rowbottom, Jack Binns and Brenton Leister also got on the scoresheet in a clash that saw seven goals in each half.
Railway now find themselves ten points adrift at the foot of the table after Worsbrough Bridge Athletic's 2-1 home victory over Glasshoughton Welfare lifted them out of the bottom two, above Winterton Rangers who lost 4-2 at Yorkshire Amateur.
Meanwhile, at the top end, Hemsworth Miners Welfare are now seven points clear after their 6-0 win over visitors Teversal, Danny Critchlow with a hat-trick to add to a double from Shane Kelsey and a goal from Bill Law.
AFC Mansfield stay second despite a 5-3 home loss to AFC Emley which sees the visitors move up into fourth, just two points behind their hosts, Ashley Flynn getting a hat-trick to take him up to 49 goals for the season.
Emley climb over Hull United who were beaten 2-1 at home by sixth-placed Penistone Church and Hallam strengthened their grip on seventh spot with a victory by the same scoreline at the side just below them, Shirebrook Town.
There was a dramatic game at Haworth Park as Hall Road Rangers and Eccleshill United both scored in stoppage time in a 5-5 thriller, Ben Kinsley thinking he had scored a winner for the hosts before Adam Turner netted his second of the afternoon to make sure the spoils were shared.
George Eustance netted twice in Knaresborough Town's 5-0 home victory over Rossington Main whilst Grimsby Borough are out of the bottom three following their 2-1 defeat of third-placed Bottesford Town.
The game between Dronfield Town and Westella VIP was abandoned after 33 minutes due to a waterlogged pitch at the Stonelow Playing Fields with the score at 0-0.
